Hi
i have amd athlon xp 2.4. when i play games the cpu temp. is 57 C.
is that a normal temp for the cpu?
Yes, ahtlons get a lot warmer than perntiums. 57 C is a very normal temp.
i have a 1800+ and after gaming with no case fans running, i get up to 150F/65C. athlons are tested to i think 90C, but don't trust me on that. its just a guess. i have my mobo set to with temp protection at like 75C, and it's never shut down my pc on me bc of the heat.

the AMD chips used now in general tend to reach anywhere from 35-45C on idle
under heavy load such as gaming its rather common to have the chip reach anywhere from 60-90C, proper cooling is essential to the longevity of the AMD processors which yes indeed run hotter than the average pentium.
with AMD gaming rigs good cpu fans and system case fans are a requirement for optimum performance.
at your current level of sub 60C your doing fine and can continue to do your gaming with out worry.
or you could get liquid cooling and not worry about the temp.
by the time you've had read this article i have just owned the riaa again ;)

My pc sits next to my ac unit with the case open on the side that faces it. I never have to worry frying my chip during the summer.
I have a nice four bedroom home.. and my house temp stays at 76 degrees.. while its a 100 degrees in texas. its nice to not worry =0)
Yeah, under 65 C is normal even under extended periods of time. If you're concerned, buy a better CPU fan which will bring down the temp around 50C.Originally Posted by gattaca

Glad to see you back Kyle, hope to see you on DC++ sometime.

Well I'm doing a cool 38C on my XP 2500+ with the cpu going full out converting from mpeg1 to 2 ..... cooling solutions, air flow, and case make all the difference.
