Anti-swap CD hits the racks

In his new album, Coming From Where I'm From, Anthony Hamilton reflects on his roots and the directions in which they have led him. His CD, meanwhile, offers a glimpse of the direction the music industry is taking to prevent rampant piracy.
The soulful singer's Arista debut, which arrives in stores today, may look like a traditional CD. But it's the first of an expected wave of CDs intended to keep listeners from swapping songs on the Net.
The disc has two sets of music tracks: one set of "encrypted" songs that can be handled by CD players but cannot be ripped on computers, and a duplicate set of tracks in the Windows Media format. These can be downloaded from the CD to a computer and then transferred to portable devices or recorded to home CDs.
But these "secure digital" tracks cannot be played on another computer should they be uploaded to the Net. "The whole concept was to create a legally licensed structure" for computer use of recorded music, says William Whitmore of SunnComm, which designed the anti-copy technology.

Not a good precedent. But how hard is it to transfer to analog, then back to digital? Then share away!! btw/ Who is Anthony Hammilton?
Some soul guy, yeah I squinted at that too, thought it was an actor from the Howling iv at first
Oh for fucks sake.. jack it to the sound card and blah blah blah...
In the time it takes anyone to listen to it, they'll have been able to rip it instead.. as long as a stereo/portable CD/whatever has a way of pushing sound to speakers... it's rippable.
When will these retarded, ignorant, moronic assholes learn?? - Piracy is undefeatable. Provide value that makes piracy less worthwhile or suffer the consequences of greed. Such a simple lesson.
And besides.. who the fuck is Anthony Hamilton or is he a lame-ass hoping that copy-protected CDs will make him famous?? .... or do I just not know 'coz I'm a limey?

I can understand that, having the WMA's on the cd for individual use on the pc and portable music players (even on the few that support wma). and rainbowdemon, It's doesn't take too long to convert an analog signal to digital on a pc or on sound equipment, you can even make a crappy copy by plugging in your sound out to your line in on your sound card.

but yeah......u tell em' method!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude. Don't complain
Chances are good that Anthony Hamilton ( no, I don't know him either) had no say in the decision about making his CD "anti-swap". The RIAA and the individual record label probably made the call.
No he's a brand new fcktoy for the record industry, no yahoo on the web except a mention in something from mtv, several yahoo in the news about BMG and fake free sharing
Yea, really. It looks like I missed the obvious on that one. lolOh for fucks sake.. jack it to the sound card and blah blah blah...
Lets have a competition - First one to acquire the first track on the CD wins.....hmmm......use of my signature space for 36 hours! Or what about they are allowed to look at a random thread from the ZP Crib?
I'm not really malicious. I'm a nice guy.

So.. if they're adding this really clever (?) protection to his CD's... how are they supposed to monitor it when he's a nobody and he already has a lot of people who think he's a jerk 'coz of his CD protection.
I wish I could be as dumb, blind and ignorant as the recording industry and make even 10% of what most of their execs make. (don't we all!)
Worse still is, nobody cares about him, hardly anyone will copy his CD's.. and the CD protection company will claim it a success.
Then our money (pumped into the likes of the RIAA) will be wasted filling the back pockets of this CD-Protection company.
What a joke!!

When the next"protected" cd come out by some artist that a lot of people do care about,it will end up all over the p2p networks. Then we will see just how "successful" these idiots think it is.Worse still is, nobody cares about him, hardly anyone will copy his CD's.. and the CD protection company will claim it a success.
They makers of these disks even admit that they are not 100% unhackable. It will just take a savvy user to do it. It's money down the drain.
