I thought it was about time I got a mp3 player and I was wondering what is the best one out there?
It is better to burn out than to fade away
Winamp 2.80! sure!
If you are talking abour a portable mp3 player, the best you can have is a Sony!
yes, i am talking about a portable mp3 player. Sorry about that.

Ok... i think that a Sony product with their Memory Stick is the best option.Originally posted by x_kurt_cobain_x

Definately an Apple Ipod. They now have a cheap one with like 30 gigs. I have the original model, and it is still amazing. After bringing it to school everyday in my backpack, and leaving it in my gym locker, and dropping it its still in great condition. It's easy to use, and great support and software. The only problem is you have to use MusicMatch Jukebox. And this leads me to my other alternative for you. The Archos. Allthough i haven't tried it I have heard some good things about it. I was considering buying the new model which can record video from, tv, vcr, computer, anywhere. This also comes with a mp3 player, and an add on is a portable camera. I am hesitating to buy this because I still think the technology is a little primative. So definately go for the Ipod for a sleek, easy, great mp3 player, and Archos for a more money efficient player.
I've got the old school mp3 only archos, and its very cool and good, and even better with the open source firmware........but it only has 18 gigs. It says 20 on the package and on the player itself, but its got 18 gigs.Originally posted by IshareManyFilez

or maybe I need to let scandisk have a go at it....either way, I feel kinda cheated.
I've heard the new models (the super expensive mutimedia kinds that you can watch movies from) are very nice but have very bad battery life. Yeah, that comes with the snazzy new technology, but If you want something like that, do what IshareManyFilez says and wait until the technology really takes off. until then, those nice old style archoses with the mp3 recorder in it are a very good value.

^^^^my christmas present :D
Considering what mp3 players do, I am a little confused by the prices that they are charging. I'm sure that manufacturers are charging above the odds for the devices. Memory is cheap now and the devices do nothing more than any other personel media player.
I would seriously consider if you need one. If you do, then you should consider how long you can wait for prices to fall.
If you think prices are fine, then by all means get one!
I hope you get what you are after x_kurt_cobain_x.

ipod 30 gig, you prob won't use the 40 gigs, just a waste of 100 bucks. The Creative Nomads are alright. the ipods are exceptional but are slippery and the hard drive is liable to break.

Back about a year ago, I did a lot of research on this and found that the Nomad Jukebox is the best combo of product and price (based on user reviews). The iPod seems to be the best overall, but last time I checked, they were more expensive than the other ones. If you don't mind the larger size, I would go with the Creative Nomad Jukebox 3 20 Gig.
Leachers only hurt p2p.

Apple.com has refurbished 2nd generation 20 GB iPods for sale online for $269. Thats a kick ass deal. I hate Apple, but I admit, the iPod is the best mp3 player out there.
PSEven if you get a mac version(which is the ones they are discounting) you can stil use it with your pc.
Sony is the best but I havent seen IPOD so maybe I'm wrong. I think I read that Sony was the first to invent the walkman.
You can buy an apple ipod or any of it, but are you really going to listen to 30 gigs of music. BUy for 90 dollars, a cd player that plays mp3s on the cd... you already going to have cd-r, that hold 140 songs, and batteries probably will last you longer to, i have a INTEL 128 meg mp3 player, 300 dollars. TOLD My wife i wanted a 20 gig mp3 player that i seen for little less money, batteries go down after 2 days if you listen to about four hours of music.
I hate Cd's the Nomad is a compromise between a MP3-CD and an .mp3 player. It looks like a CD player (the nice one) but plays like an mp3 playerOriginally posted by shawners
