I can't sign it :-(. Perhaps I could get a "zip code" from a company?:fire

Online petitions are useless. Unfortunately, its true.
We all know what happened to Audiogalaxy and of course 3000 people who said something like "RIAA give me Audiogalaxy back" couldn't do anything.
Petitions are as much a publicity stunt as anything else. They may help change opinions over the long term.

It's strange how each generation has their tragedy and this being ours. I was in my business class and after the second plane hit it was obvious Binladin was responsible. The timing and style was exactly the same as the attacks on embassy in Africa and the two ships. This is nothing to be proud of but things like these change history and how people view others in the past.
That appears to be a little bit off-topic...Originally posted by Digital Bliss

This is bigger than one file-sharing program, and a petition does make a difference. There are around 60 million Americans who use p2p software and I think politicians listen to those kind of numbers, unless we just sit on our asses and whine about things.
I think he thought he was replying to that other thread. Maybe a mod could merge this post into that one....Originally posted by Digital Bliss

Oh, and BTW I think this petition is more effective, than those ones where some 5 year old makes and is full of "Fuck The RIAA" remarks. This EFF petition actually has a sensible message. And 10,000 ppl is quite a bit.
petitions usually work if you offer the petitionED something back. we have nothing to offr

All the EFF are asking for is to be consulted during discussions about copyright law. The petition does not ask for the legalisation of p2p, just for p2p users to have a voice. Therefore, what the EFF has to offer is consultation with voters.

Tee pettion actually spells out our opposition to the RIAA tactics. If you want to do more go to this site http://action.eff.org/action/index.asp?step=2&item=2770
and the EFF has a letter that you can send to your elected representative in congress,( and they even figure out who your represntative is if you don't know it!) The letter is more specific about legislative issues. I sent two to my congressman and he responded both times in writing, saying that he was aware of the issues and would seriously consider my views when the issue came up for a vote!
BTW the pettition is up to 7684.
thats it only 7 thousand, we need to get more people than that theres millions of us.
i can't sign either. only for Americans.
tis okay........they have well over 10,000 signatures.

If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude. Don't complain
That's impressive. I signed up last night and they had only a couple of thousands sigs then.Originally posted by Lamourlady

Since its inception almost 30 years ago, the internet has been transformed from a primitive device for sharing thoughts and ideas, into a massive network where people pay to connect and read advertisements they don't want, while calling each other "asshats".
