Hey all,
I'm working on an article about private file sharing communities for a German newspaper, and I was wondering if anyone here is a) from the US and b) uses a private DC hub or some similiar system and is willing to share some of his experiences?
I'm open for every communication channel (E-Mail, ICQ, AIM, IRC, ZP private messages :-) ) and can guarantee anonymity.
Thanks in advance,
Janko
Try searching the forums while you are waiting for answers, there's lots of good background stuff there for you already.
Common good experiences include an abundance of files and no fakes.
Common bad experiences include tyrant admins and a tendency for people to nuke you for mouthing off.
Um no offense but I doubt that many people will trust you unless you can show some credentials. Nothing against you personally but in these days of covering your ass you have to be very careful in whom you give information to. However that said Aqlo has given you some good advice about checking the search for threads about DC and who knows maybe someone will be forthcoming with more information. Just don't be surprised if people aren't. Anyways, good luck with your research.

You're right, it would be unfair to expect anything without giving you guys some information regarding my background. Okay, here we go:
My name is Janko Roettgers, I'm a German journalist living in Los Angeles, and I cover file sharing issues for about 3 years now. Almost all of my articles are in German, but you can browse and Google-translate some of them at http://www.lowpass.de
Ohh, and I also just wrote a book about the end of the music industry and maintain a related blog on this topic here:

You can also do some Google-searches on my name if you want :-)
jank0: I run a private DC community for high quality MP3 albums.

Being German, you may appreciate or loathe the name, depending on your understanding of Nietzsche.
Anyways, I would be more than happy to share any of my experiences with you.

Oh wait, I just read that you want someone from the U.S.
I'm from Canada, sorry 'bout that.

Fair enough. I'm sure if you give it a few days you'll find people willing to discuss with you. Again good luck and if it's not a problem maybe you can post your article here when it comes out as I and I think many people would be interested in reading it. Cheers!

I use DC++ and belong to a few private hubs. The experience is wonderful. You can't beat it. Likeminded people get together and share amongst themselves in a small community. It's what file sharing is all about.
