Can 1 folder be on two hard drives?

hey. one of my hard drives has only one folder on it (My Music), but now my hard drive is full. I don't want to make a new music folder because then every time I got a new MP3, I'd have to search the other music folder to see if I already had it.

Anyways, the point is, can I add space to this folder from my other hard drive? I've thought about buying a larger drive, but I just bought this 120GB one in June. Thanks.

Make a link to the other folder on the other drive and stick it in the directory on this one.

If you have Windows 2000 you can create a spanned volume. With a spanned volume the hard drives is seen as one volume.

I believe what he is saying is to create music shortcuts in your My Music folder.

-Get another drive
-Put the music on the extra drive
-Go to your Music folder
-Right click in the window for the menu to pop up
-Select New, Shortcut
-Have the shortcut point to one of the music file.

I'm assuming you are using windows?

Run Windows Explorer (not IE), you ought to have a directory window on the right and a drive-and-directory tree on the left. Make sure the directory you like is open in the tree, then go down and find the new directory on the other drive. Don't left-click, instead right-click down on it but don't let go, then drag it up and drop it (release the right button) into the directory you left open, the one you actually like but is full. A menu will pop up offering several choices like copy and move, click the one that says to make a shortcut. This will cause the new directory to appear to be a subdirectory of the full one, but still use the other drive space.

PS: Jelsoft please explain more about spanned volumes, that might be a better solution but I don't know anything about it.

I filled my 80 gig in about 2 weeks. WIth all the crap I installed and straight downloading. But I think aqlo's right that might be the best way to do it.

I made the shortcut, but it doesn't do what I want. When I add files I already have, I want the drive to tell me so, and ask if I want to overwrite the original copy. The shortcut files don't appear to do that, but thanks for the advice anyways. I think what I might do is just keep the A-S bands in one hard drive, and T-Z bands in the smaller drive.

I don't have Windows 2000, or I'd try that spanned volume thing. O well, Christmas is coming, and maybe it's time for a 250GB.

I didn't completely fill the 120GB this summer. I already had 9000 songs or so on my 60 GB, which took like 40GB of space. Now, I have 26259 songs because I started college, have a fast connection, and never miss one of the campus File-Sharing parties.

I'm not so sure on how to create a spanned volume myself because I haven't created one yet.

But look in the disk management ulitilty for more information.
