    Belgium no longer safe

    Hey all,

Its a sad day today for filesharing in Belgium.
A girl was sued for sharing a song on kazaa that she had downloaded legally through drm. Because she had downloaded it through drm, they were able to track her or something. I guess the authorities are too stupid to think of Ip adresses.
What bothers me the most about this lawsuit is that the girl actually downloaded the song legally, and then got sued. Thats just too harsh.
This is the first lawsuit about filesharing in Belgium that I know of.
I hope that not many will follow...

The problem arises where she shared the song. Unfortunately, being a leech is OK, but sharing isn't.

I believe it was for sharing the songs afterwards, not for downloading.

She downloaded through drm? Is that some sort of site? Or do you mean she shared a DRM-protected file, which would not play for anyone else without a valid license.

Got a link to the story?

She first downloaded a song legally through some site.
The song had drm on it.
She shared the song on kazaa
she got sued by the Belgian copyright organisation I guess, dunno what it is.

So instead of sueing people that download 100% illegal, she downloaded legal, but just shared it afterwards...

I don't have a link to a story, it was just on the Belgian news (getting sued for filesharing is still big news here)

Its a 16 year old girl who downloaded a song legally. And then shared it. The record company had put an unique "watermark" in each file that was downloaded. And so they managed to trace the girl.
The record company isn't going to sue the girl.
    they only warned her.

Anyone who 'pays' for copy protected DRM fingerprinted crap and then shares it on Kazaa is an idiot and deserves to get caught.
