    EFF action Notice.

I go this email from the EFF tonight, please consider going over there and sending a letter. Even if you think that music should be "free only", doing something is better than sitting on you thumb while your elected officials sell you out to corporate greed. Shouldn't take very long all you need to do is fill out the info part and they do the rest according to your zip code.

    Dear EFF Supporter,

We've got some amazing news: EFF supporters like you sent over 25,000
letters to Congress to protest the RIAA's war on peer-to-peer (P2P)
    file-
sharing. Congress listened, and the rest of the country is waking up.
Senator Norm Coleman, the chairman of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee
    on
Investigations, has called for hearings to analyze the RIAA's deluge of
subpoenas. This is the first step in the right direction, so let's
    keep
the momentum going. Make sure that the RIAA isn't the only
    organization in
the room when the hard questions start coming; tell Congress that you
    want
the Electronic Frontier Foundation to represent your interests in the
    hearings:

    http://action.eff.org/action/index.asp?step=2&item=2770

Our goal is to have over 100,000 letters delivered by the time of the
hearing, so once you've taken action, give the people you care about an
opportunity to make a difference. Forward this message to five
    friends,
family members or coworkers and tell them why it matters to you. Tell
    them
that in addition to the hearings, a Boston judge ruled this month that
    the
RIAA doesn't have the authority to use a D.C. court's subpoenas on
Massachusetts students. Tell them that SBC Internet, a California
    Internet
service provider, is suing the RIAA for misuse of the legal system.
    Now is
    the time to act together:

The EFF is a great organization and I think their latest action is exactly what is needed to inject some common sense back into the entire debate over P2P services and put the brakes on the RIAA's compaign of terror against the ordinary citizen . Every zeropaid member should support and encourage them . My question is this : is is worthwhile for Canadians or citizens of other countries to joing in this latest action by the EFF or is it intended mainly for US citizens?

it is for US users only. It sends a message to congress, and if you live in another country, you are not one of their constituents for that state. I guess you could fill it out incorrectly and lie.

Then again, other countries aren't having this kafuffle like USA with RIAA etc. or not to the degree you are having anyway.

Please don't do this, it can tend to compromise the effort and consume time and money on the wrong side. If you don't live and vote in the US yet don't worry your time will come. In the meantime if you want to do something it won't hurt at all to send mail to congressmen and other pols and also celebrities you like! telling them how you feel and asking them to consider your thoughts, just don't taint EFF with lame BS

Lets just take a minute to think about all this. In this case I would have to agree with aglo. Don't fill this form out with bogus info. Lets keep it real if possible.

But to that end, if I lived outside the US I would still support groups like EFF or publicknowledge.org. Remember that historically we, in the US, have set laws in motion here that get written into treaties with other allied countries. These countries then take these shit laws and add their own spin or branding if you will and then stick you with it. So if you can't do this letter action, write to the EFF and ask what can you do (besides money, since they ALWAYS want money). There may be a grassroots organization in your area that is just starting out. So use the EFF and Publicknowledge and get and stay informed. It truly is our only hope that more people become aware that the music industry is taking away a hell of a lot more than your freebie music.

And BIG thanks to REDO for getting hot and sending out a letter so quick!
