Yea, Messenger service is a pain if you are not firewalled, why in the heck did they even include that in XP Home? I can see it's use only on servers and on XP in the enterprise, but home edition?

Yes, I see no reason why Microsoft ever implemented that damn messenger service very annoying if you dont know how to get rid of it.
I mean unless your a administrator and need to send messages over your companies network to someone it is very lame.
I sometimes use it at LAN parties to piss off my friends when they are playing games, funny to watch their games minimize and have one of my false advertisements and joke messages pop up.
Other than that, its lame.
You're exactly right, they had to be smoking crack when they decided to make the Messenger service automatically start by default. In both Pro and Home editions! (I could almost see it being used in the Pro version, but home?!?!)Originally Posted by Omyn
I've been at friends' houses before and watched them use their computers. I've seen literally 10 Messenger SPAMs within 2 minutes. One guy was seriously ready to throw his computer out the window. I showed him how to remove the service and his ulcers went away! :upside
