A few questions about RAM, and HD...

    I have 2 questions:

    1) Is the expensive corsair TWINX 3200 RAM worth buying? In otherwords would I be better of paying the same or more for 512MB of corsair 3200 RAM than 1 gig of cheaper RAM (probably 2700) from a different manufacturer?

    2) Is the cache important on a HD? I can choose between a 2MB cache harddisk and an 8MB harddisk, is the 8MB A LOT better?

    Thanks!

i'll answer the HDD question first....

YES! get the 8 MB cache.

now...ram....you probably don't need PC3200 ram unless you're overclocking...i may be wrong....but i'm sure i'll be corrected if so. go with PC2700, or PC2100 they are both fine.

    as for 2 512s or 1 1gig...shouldn't make a difference.

    Thanks for the reply.

You sorta misunderstood my concern about the RAM tho.

I wasnt comparing a 2x512 and a gig i was comparing 512 and a gig. In otherwords a TWINX 2x256MB vs. a potentially cheaper 1 GIG solution from some other manufacturer...

okay, i thought about that after i reread the question.....

for the most part...you'll be better off with more RAM rather than faster RAM.

if it was up to me, i'd get a gig rather than a fast 512.

Assuming you are downloading a lot of files yes?
an 8mb cache will keep your hard drive from spinning all the time, probably extend its lifetime years many longer than with a 2mb
A computer with twice as much ram is more than 4 times faster if configured properly, if you are using windows you will want to tweak the memory/swapfile thingie for best results

Defiantly go with the 8mb cache.. that's all I use now!

Memory...umm... Yeah.. Whatever you can afford.. lol

.... I would agree with cpugeniusmv on that more memory is better than faster.
I have 1GB on this system, and faster 512 RAM on the same speed cpu on a secondary machine, and I see a noticeable difference between them. (1GB being better)

    cheers!

I'd go with what everybody else has said, more RAM, more value for your money.

For the RAM question make sure that your motherboard supports the mhz of speed of the DDR RAM your going to add in. If it doesnt then it will just run at a reduced speed and you would have just wasted money.
