So the RIAA is scanning kazaa and looking for those with copyrighted songs that they are sharing and they are putting them on the list to be filed for lawsuits.. Well the fact is 80% of those people,if sent a letter for court or anything will have no idea what the hell it is. Most kids in my town have no idea they ARE sharing anything, they just think kazaa is a program with a bunch of songs and things in it that they can download and I'll bet its the same thing for most towns everywhere else.If you look at the subpoena list they're all names like cutiechick and such. In fact most of them think you can only listen to the music and wathch the videos from kazaa. They dont realize that there's a folder Under Program Files/Kazaa/ called My Shared Folder where all their things are stored. Two days ago a good friend of mine came up to me and said something is wrong with my kazaa. Later after taking a look at it and talking to him I realized he did not even know how to install it.He had a very old version like most and had no idea how to uninstall it or install a new one. Imagine if he got a court letter to be sued. He has no idea the RIAA exists nor does he know it's illegal. The RIAA is suing people without knowing any facts now who they are suing. Tell me that suing a 13 year old who has nsync and 50 cent on her computer that she unknowingly "Shares" will make their point across.
Only God Can Judge Me.All you other Fu*kers get out of my business.
Ignorance of the law is no defense.
Personally I have no sympathy for people who don't take the time to learn the how to use software.
In someways these subpoenas will make people realize how these copyright laws are getting out of hand.
Actually ignorance of the law is a defense releated to felony cases. Especially where you didn't know you were commiting a felony. You have to show intentional malice. But in this case, nope your screwed! Copyright infringing isn't a felony .........yet!Originally posted by Jelsoft

Yes, this is precisely why the RIAA is sueing people. They want them to realize that music isn't just free, if you're sharing, you're doing something illegal.
More and more people are finding this out and more and more people are deciding not to share, because that's the next step in a Kazaa newbie's life cycle and the RIAA knows it.
Plus, the RIAA doesn't care, they are making a hauling off p2p now just by sueing people, if each person they have already subpeonad settles for the modest fee of $10,000, they'll be making millions of dollars a year without doing so much as lifting a finger. They just tell their lawyers who to hit, and they hit them.
