Top Cover songs, Live Songs, and Acoustic

I have listend to great deal of songs on the radio and find some of them have hidden acoustic or live versions that far surpass the original studio recording.
Worst Cover song i found was Maria Carey singing bringing on a heartbreak** More like bring me a shotgun
Best cover song i heard was Kula Shaker with Hush Hush,
Live Recoring i like was Dave matthews , Crash.
ITs tough to choose best acoustic, but i go with Lighting Crash by the artist Live..
I know their are just TOO many great acoustics out there, Cold play trouble, and yellow is good.
Please list ones we should check out and ones we should stay away from.

Believe it or not, a live recording of

"Is This The End" by Creed (ugh, I know I know), sounds like it far surpasses the original...........at least for the people who were at "Edgefest" to hear it. Unfortunetely, the recording currently making the rounds on your friendly neighborhood P2P is a distorted amatuerish recording.

Once upon a time, Creed was a good band.........until "weatherd" solidified their mainstream sellout. Sad.

"The Number Of The Beast" - Zwan

Zwan (Billy Corgan) did the soundtrack for the movie Spun, and they did a couple of nice acoustic covers. Good movie with a great soundtrack

Also, Pearl Jam do some great covers of The Who.

I would rather do worst song to cover, which in my opinion would be Creep by Radiohead. I have never heard a good cover of it. Eddie Vedder tried it with the Birdman Sessions, The Cure tried it, and so have other bands. The problem is not the vocals, it's that no one can do the distortion guitar. In my opinion, they shouldn't even try it.

Best cover song is a hard one.. I really like the emotion that The Ataris put into Boys Of Summer... However of course it is by no means the best. Other good ones are I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston, Last Kiss by Pearl Jam, I Will Survive by Cake, Black by Aaron Lewis, and my favorite might be Guns N' Roses, Knocking On Heavens Door.

Best Live Recording... Alive by Pearl Jam was done great live... Especially Mccready's distortion guitar. Anything that involves Tom Morello also sounds almost perfect live, including when Audioslave performed on top of the sign on Letterman. He seems to carry the show. One underrated group for live songs is Collective Soul, who will extend their great guitarist's solos (Ross Childress). He plays 2 to 3 times the original length when they play live and he doesn't miss a note. Also all of them play guitars live, which is a nice thing to see since they have some of the best guitarists in the world. What I mean by this is that Ed Roland, their lead singer, who went to Berklee for Guitar, chose not to play guitar when he formed the group to enable them to have a dedicated lead singer. However when they play live, he picks up the guitar and plays very well. Try downloading their live videos for Heavy or Shine on Kazaa.

Best Acoustic... Hard to choose again. Everlong done by Dave Grohl on Howard Stern was nice, so were Black and Outside by Aaron Lewis, and my second favorite acoustic song ever would be Oasis - Wonderwall with Noel Gallager singing it on Mtv Unplugged (Give it a chance, he sings much better than Liam)... Staind is a wonderful band for acoustic stuff, so are Travis and Live... My favorite acoustic song though was released as one and that is Days of The New, "Touch, Peel, and Stand". One more song that will amaze you is the studio acoustic version of Shine by Collective Soul. Download it just to listen to Childress' solo, you won't be sorry.

One more song to mention is a song that is called acoustic, but really isn't. However it's a wonderful song that sounds nothing like their radio/album version of the song. The song is I Walk Alone by Oleander. The so-called acoustic version is one of the best songs I have ever heard.

    An awesome song!

Also, the acoustic version to "Alone" by Downface is very nice.

Mariah Carey should be taken up a tower and locked in until rigor mortis sets in. Any way on a brighter note I found a cover of Heaven and Hell by OVERKILL hidden at the end of a CD, Not a very good one mind. OVERKILL is one of my fav bands, and they do some really kick ass covers of other Sabbath tunes also covers of Kiss, Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Twisted Sister and Edgar Winter, Any one into metal would appreciate their effort. They still rock after 20 years in the business. Unlike Metallicrap

    yea... hmmm

Any incubus is great unplugged. I miss you and Stellar are my favs.

I saw the NIN DVD last night and the yare really amazing live.. I was reminded how great they were when isaw them in 2000 :D

I believe STP did a good cover of Kashmier.

SRC's Cover of the smith's how soon is it now and the cure's love song are both excellent.

and yes Shine by collective soul accoustic is quite amazing... i was completely revolted by Dolly Partons.....Hacking.. thrashing... and just doing a horrid cover. Not to mention winning a grammy. made me want to puke. I personally am sick of country artists ripping stuff and the lack of writing ability with some of the "artists" As well as pop "artists" as well. They should simply refer to them as singers. That's it solely. SINGERS. I have nothing against singers except for the fact that i feel it's atrue insult to great musicians of the past and today to call them an artist. It's like saying a painter is truely an artist when he uses paint by numbers.

"Respect" by Aretha Franklin and "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" by Otis Redding are classic examples of great covers.

Yo La Tengo did a beautiful cover of "Be Thankful For What You've Got"

Tricky's "Black Steel" cover of Public Enemy's trademark song is excellent as well.

    alliercollins great list of songs!!
I liked the days of the new song as well ken.
Im sure its a shame some of the songs on the net that are live are just recorded so horribly that it makes the song litterally bad. Clapping two feet away from recorder and the vocalist isnt loud enuogh to go over the crowd.
Bono Did a song with the corrds, Called Summer wine and stars go blue.. Awesome two songs on their =) Its recorded in dublin in a acoustic setting.
