    Blur vs. Oasis

come on, it HAD to be asked.

Yes, I know this is pointless.

    But I couldn't help it.

I'm a Blur person, by the way.

I kinda liked the "What's The Story Morning Glory ?" album by Oasis. Not great, but OK.

    Blur, quite frankly, bores me.

It just doesn't appeal to me at all.

So the winner, via technicality, is Oasis, even though I never really was that enthusiastic and/or don't care for it now.

Here is a shocker, I'd pick Elton John over these two any day.

"Your Song" and "Daniel" kick ass.

While Elton's flamboyancy annoys me, he has a wonderful voice.

The Beatles vs The Kinks all over again, it was argued. Hmmm.

Oasis had great hooks, a good sense of pop melody, and shameless self-promotion. What-his-face had an alright voice, too imo, and the tunes on the first one were all pretty good. Second CD had its moments--never bothered with the third one, though my friend from Boston bought it and said it was good. Biggest plus, and biggest minus at the same time was their "Beatle-esque" sound, though they pulled it off better than Lenny Kravitz did. And I liked the Setting Sun track the C-Bros did with Noel Gallagher (that's his name!) on the vocs. Oasis came to Providence once, but someone threw a shoe at NG two or three songs in and hit him in the head. They stomped off the stage in a little hissy fit and never came back out...

Blur...Song2. And a couple of other ones, that had a cool blend of techno and rock, kind of like Curve. I never saw what the BritPress saw about the two that was so rivalistic, other than Noel Gallagher's running commentary about how great Oasis was compared to everyone else and how much Blur sucked. I didn't really see the Kinks analogy there either, though I haven't listened to everything they did.

Isn't the guy from Blur singing with some techno-ish outfit now?

Last word: I like both, for different reasons. Oasis garnered more popular support, especially over here in the US, but sfw...

I'd hafta say blur. The lead singer is in Gorillaz =).

Doh! That's right. I still won't commit to either as better than the other, but Blur's coolness factor just went up a 8 more points with that reminder

For Blur, Song 2 was that song that didn't really fit with the rest, and that was the one that made it really damn big. So people thought maybe all their stuff was like that, and when it wasn't, they were like "Blah to Blur."

/me likes Blur and finds Oasis really goddamn f*cking annoying.

    Brit Pop?????? Oh Please!

    It's really not an issue.

Oh alright then, Oasis. Because their second album was quite a listenable affair.

Cool ... of the 2 ... oasis for me ...

... one thing i like about oasis is that they've done alot of their songs also in acoustics, too, & so, for me, no matter what mood i'm in (& i have many ... ), there's an oasis song for me ...

elton??? well, elton isn't someone i normally listen to, but there is one song this horse lover loves, ... live like horses ... takes me to a happy, happy place ... me, on my horse in the meadows, with my headphones... : )

    "someday we'll live like horses
free reign from your old iron fences
there's more ways than one to regain your senses
break out the stalls and we'll live like horses
    someday"
"Mitakuye Oyasin (Lakota) ~ we are all related."

"it's better to have never loved at all, than to have been in love and felt it's fall ... "
