Not a dumb question at all. But not an easy task in my opinion either. If memory serves you need to rip the vob files from the dvd and then use flaskmpeg to decode just the audio stream. Check out these two places for the programs and guides to use:

See post below for more helpful links!

Only problem I see is, that the dvds rarely contain the whole track, usually just a short sample to play as background. You might be better served searching for soundtracks on you favorite P2P network.

Well most come here with a separate agenda and tend to treat the veterans here as idiots. You can see how they might not be received with open arms. But you had a legit question, one I haven't seen dealt with here. I guess I should take this time to remind you to use the search function if you have other questions. Although I have had less than ANY luck with our search engine! Have Fun! And feel free to post what you find out on this subject (audio and DVD) so you can help educate the masses!

I use a program called All Sound Recorder to simply record the sound while it is playing, it simply enables you to record the WAV/DirectSound stream which Sound Recorder and programs like Creative Wave Studio don't allow you to do. You can use it for recording RealAudio streams and suchlike also. Search it on download.com

Only problem here is that if you dub from the audio stream of the DVD, then you'll be recording both the speech and music at the same time. I think he wanted to just record the music, like it was a separate track on the dvd, which it is not.

edit by FW : But Born, this program might be really useful for those pesky DRM wrapped songs that are floating about resticting all your "fair use" rights. Thanks for the tip!
