After you read around, a couple of days
After a couple weeks, a couple post
You need atleast a month of learning things
Atleast after 2 months...
As Long as i've been here, your all n00bs

well, since most noobs lately are flaming noobs, or redundant news noobs, who go away after less than 30 posts, I'd have to say that after 40 posts and no threats of getting banned, you're not a noob.
(not to offend any noobs who haven't been annoying, its just that with the influx of RIAA action, you know, all sorts of geniuses are attracted to the forums.......)
and I have the pleasure to say that since you've been neither flaming, nor spitting out the same news, and you've been making decent posts, you deserve the rights.
firstly, start by changing your status. Surely you can think of something more creative than "Advanced BBS Member" :wings
Indie Music You Need NOW: Bright Eyes, British Sea Power, Calla, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Interpol, Low, The Libertines, Cat Power, Squarepusher, The Coral, Desaparecidos, The Decemberists
no RIAA, Guaranteed!
I second that.Originally posted by Caitlyn Marble

However there are some morons who NEVER get it and occasionally drop by to ask dumb questions. The RIAA stuff, wow, seen lots of characters in here thinking they can rile us up, but they're not "noobs" they're just Aholes who are too dumb to say anything interesting, so they just say something radical or inflammatory to exude the illusion of being intelligent. And then, well, you have the losers that get off on saying something bad in a forum, then watching the result, expecting to be banned. Those are the worst cuz you KNOW they have no lifes. Yes, more so than the 2000+ posters who arent mods :)

When they explore google before opening there mouths, that's usually good enough for me!
Other than that it depends on the knowledge aquired on a specific program/community/etc. so I'd say the duration of time someone is a n00b depends on their speed of learning and the complexity of what they're wanting to de-n00b themselves over. :;)

Just because someone posts 10 times a day for 10 days, doesnt make them NOT a n00b.
When it becomes obvious that you understand how the site works, and have gotten a feel for the people here, then you on your way. It doesnt hurt to make some positive contributions either.
What, exactly, are veterans rights?Originally posted by FutureIverson

When they learn to use the search function of the forum before posting this crap.

noobs are noobs for a couple of months (at least) post numbers dont matter too much I'd say, as long as your logging in and rooting about often enough. I hate when noobs de-noob themselves by posting nonsense then bugger off, its kinda of a strange thing to do.
Yes I am a noob, and proud of it. :blah
As far as noobs go everyone here is a noob. Does not matter how many post you have under your belt. As long as their are lessons to learn your still a noob bottom line!.
So stop replying people ask stupid Questions with in reality there is no such thing as a stupid Question. Treat people the way you want to be treated.

It doesn't matter how many posts you have, it matters on your thinking capability on the subject of file sharing and the ideas that revolve around it. If you think KaZaA is the only good application for downloading, that is one way to tell if you are a noob (I hate using that term though).
“Workingmen of Europe feel sure as the American War of Independence initiated a new era of ascendancy for the middle class, so the American Antislavery War will do for the working classes.” - Karl Marx
When somebody just comes in to the forums and starts a thread for other reasons than just to introduce themselves or ask for help on something, that's usually not a good sign.
First spend alot of time reading, and respond to threads so people will begin to know you, and then you will know what an appropriate thread to start would be.

There is a definitive destinction regarding whether people are newbies or not, and YES, there really is such a thing as a stupid question. They run on the same level as your post.
When you spout off without knowing what your talking about YES, you definately have a few things to learn. If you jump in the middle of things without surveying your surroundings, you a n00b.
As notbob . . who is NOT a n00b pointed out, some people have 1,000 posts and still cant quite get the hang of it. Do they have "veterans rights"? Well, more than you people with 16 posts under your belt.
I dont care how long you say youve been lurking, or signed up, if you just show up once and a while to smart off, or make your statement, then you dont carry much weight here. Sorry, but the people who make intellegent posts and try to bring something to the table, supercede the lamers who have nothing more than "Down with the RIIA" or fart jokes. Really, if thats all you have to say, just dont say anything.
If you think that "everyone is equal", then be in for a rude awakening.
.
I just think it's a little sad that some people are so obsessed with status, hierarchy, and their own individual position within it. Surely it's possible to feel satisfied and emotionally secure without having to dump on someone who walked in the door 30 seconds after you did.
Some people have an acknowledged expertise and hence authority and are regular reliable advisors, mentors etc, it doesn't take too long to work out who they are or also that they are human too and not infallible.
Also worth bearing in mind is that although this is the filesharing forum and site in every way that matters, there are only a miniscule proportion of the worlds sharers here, a few thousand out of many millions. So you might feel like your'e some kind of God because your post count hits 10 or 100 or 1000 and you threw your newly acquired weight around or someone kissed up to you a little or you learnt all the jargon or whatever but actually there is a whole p2p world of filesharers that haven't heard of anyone here and somehow they still get by. Perspective.
You can be a filesharer a long time and still be a noob on a forum. It doesn't mean anything.
"You have already proven what you are...
a troll chucking flaming spam out..".....who me?
If it means anything...I still feel like a n00b at times around here.
