I would like your opinions on what to look for in a graphics card with TV-out.
I am not interested in playing games, so features to improve those aren't needed. All I'm after is to get the very best picture quality on my TV (36") from the computer. I'm picky about picture quality, heh. Also, I'd like to be able to see and hear it from both the TV and the computer at the same time if possible (they are in different rooms). I thought I read a while ago that these were going to be greatly improved in the near future, but that was a few months ago.
I have been surfing around, but since I don't really understand what the different features mean, it's fairly greek to me at this point. Mind boggling actually when I see all the choices. Links, if you have them to a product would be helpful too. I know nothing about them, so please keep that in mind when you reply. :)
Thanks much!

Bahhhhh you could have asked me this in chat
Work your solutions backwards.
First thing is, 1) does your TV, (Im assuming since its a 36", you have good taste and your rich, that it does) have the RCA audio in puts on the back? . . . You know . . .Left - Right
Next is, 2) Does your TV have an S-Video input?
If your set has either of those two, your good.
Next, 3) does your TV currently go thru a Home Theatre System for the audio out?
4) What is the distance from your computer, to you TV or Home Theatre? 20' ? 40' ? Measure the true path of where you will have to run cable, around baseboard etc.
I can say with 99% confidence that you will not have a problem, as long as you buy the correct cables, which I know what you need. Honestly I am thinking that a wireless solution may be best for you.
Answer the above in detail, I will do the rest.
.
I'm at work silly, which is why I didnt ask you in chat, which is what I said in the PM. ;)
Anyhoo, I'm sure the TV has all the needed plugs, but it's way too heavy to just pull out and look. I'll look in the manual when I get home, but I'm sure I looked before and there were both those inputs there.
Yes, the TV is hooked up to a home system.
As far as the distance, it would have to go down thru the floor, across the basement, and back up in the living room. Prolly 20 or 25 feet I am guessing. In just distance across, which goes thru 1 wall, its about 15 feet maybe. I can measure if needed in a bit.
So wireless would be much preferable. I didn't know those were available.
Thankies.

Yup, when you get home and finish the tasks I asked you to, then I will unforget about you.
I'm going to see Pirates of the Caribbean . . . . which seems strangely ironic.
I measured, and I was close. It's 16 feet from point A to point B straight across, but there's one wall inbetween. If we need a cable down through one floor and up through the other, I'd say it's then 26 feet to be safe.
Yes, according to the manual, there are both those input on the rear of the TV.
As far as the home system connection, the TV has audio out thats connected to the VCR, and the VCR connected to the rest of the home system.

Noboby besides Krell has any opinions on this? Odd.

I might.
Buy the S-Video cable, however long you need it, and run that directly into your TV.
For audio, buy a small mini-to-RCA adapter, and then run regular RCA cables to your receiver. It's MUCH cheaper than trying to find a long y-cable. Lengths longer than about 6 feet tend to ramp up in price VERY quickly.
This might not work for you if you have a DVD player that you have connected via S-Video. If that's the case, you'd have to mess with connecting/disconnecting cables.
The other option is to purchase some sort of S-Video hub, where you can connect multiple devices with either S-Video or RCA. Or I suppose you can video/audio switch them through your receiver as well.
Do what you wish! Ultimately that is what matters.
DAMN woman . . . good thing youre not pushy.
FreakinWeasel had the same Idea as I, and posted this link to Tiger Direct.
