play in a dvd player
Howdy, when I burn an div/divx rated or changed to AVI,
I burn it to a cd-r using a data disk. It plays well on my
computer, but will not play on daughter's dvd player
hooked to the tv set. Any clues what's wrong? Thank
you.

do not burn it as a data file, a standard dvd player doesnt recognise .avi as a playable format.
you have to convert the file and burn it as a svcd/vcd as that is what most standard dvd players will understand.
the reason it works on the computer??
simply put the OS recognises it as a video file and will play it as is.
you can go here http://www.dvdrhelp.com/guides and learn a bit more and find out what you gotta do, or wait for somebody to come along and post a quick program that will do it for you.
either way thats the issue at hand.
