I have a question that maybe someone can answer, this morning I found that Shareaza was trying to send out a email which was stopped by my Zone Alarm firewall I believe it was trying to send out info that is in my Data file inside of Shareaza file on my hard drive, if you make a copy of the .dat file and open in with notepad you can see some interesting stuff. This is the ip it was trying to reach 217.187.242.144:25 anyone with any ideas?????? Thanks
Don't worry, thats a government site, but they said they stopped monitoring weeks ago!
I'm kidding btw.
Its really nothing to worry about. What hapened is shareaza tried to send a request on the email port. Since it randomly chooses ports, it must have selected that port. When ZA saw activity on that port it ASSUMED it was email.
Its not just shareaza that does this, I've seen 2-3 similar cases in the last few weeks. Either bind it to a port that isn't the email port, or ignore it.

Well, whatever it was i blocked it, and my Shareaza still works. better safe than sorry. I still think someone should look more into it. Thanks for the help anyway isus and phalkon30.
Just to make sure, i checked the Shareaza boards at forums.shareaza.com and found a similar complaint, with ZA. The answer given to them was similar to what I gave you.
You're right though, can't hurt

I tried to do some research on www.dshield.org it seems the email was going to Germany. I guess it doesnt matter really where it was going, but what was in the email. I am going to turn my shareaza on and use visual zone and zonealarm and see if it happens again with the same ip address. Thanks again phalkon30 for your help.

Thanks Criminal_Sniper for your input. maybe more people will start to notice.
It's just shareaza using random ports. When it stumbles on the port used for email ZA thinks its trying to send mail. Possibly, the suggesstion of a whitelist and a blacklist for ports will be considered in the future.
Tuff its not sending anything but a request to connect to the networks but as everyone has said Shareaza uses random port sending and opens e-mail ports and sometimes ports which games use thats why you should not use other programs while using p2p programs. As interfernace is very likley. Just set Shareaza to use a range between ports that are not used by standard windows programs and you will be fine. You can find a list of what uses which port through google.

Hern Mauser thanks for your input I will do some research with google and see what I can find.
Why dont you just bind it to a single port you can do this in the options
Freedom he probabley will bind it after finding which ports are not used by programs he has. Thats why I told him to search on net to find out which ones are used by common programmes.
