bc midi's are hella smaller than mp3's. but the better question is, do you realize what will happen to the audio file when you try to make it midi?

most midi's are set up like this:
at 1 second: do "boom chick"
at 4 seconds: do "chick boom"
at 8 seconds: end "boom chick"
    at 10 seconds...

not a good idea if you are trying to make midi's from a cd.

Yeah, midi-files sounds like primitive version of audio. They're EXTREMELY small in size, but they also sound like someone is playing on primitive keyboard and repeating few notes. If your main reason is to save space, maybe you should try Awave. Otherwise you will not get anything close to normal audio and small size of files at the same time.

    Mp3'masta'....your drifting into 'tard-ness'....

No you can't convert wavs/mp3's or any other 'analog' sound into a midi...as a midi is just a line of notes and keys played in a certain order....using your soundcard or pulling it's 'notes' from a wavetable bank.

However you can convert midi's to wavs by just having it record the wavetable synths the track is using in order and time to a wav file...thats been around since 3.1....

If you want ringtones...just search google for "Songtitle midi" and you should get a copy in midi format that someone has taken the time to create based on the song you want....

You can convert wav/mp3 to midi.

The only good way is to do it manually, this requires musical skill. Get a composer program, listen to the music, enter the notes in the composer program and adjust until it sounds like a good reproduction of the original. Should only take you a few years to become a good musician....

The the alt.music.midi FAQ lists a load of software that can convert .wav to .mid and notes that none of it does a good job.
