I haven't touched BitTorrent since the whole BSA issue popped up.

Yes, when I did use BitTorrent, I did leave the torrents open sometimes. It really depended.

It depends on how popular the file is. The nice thing about BT is that the files that are slower, require longer to download, therefore you are uploading longer, it's nice how that works. But generally speaking, if it comes pouring in at 200KB/s+, I figure my upload bandwidth is of better use on another torrent. If the torrent has been open a week, it's probably got a lot of sources, if it was just posted, I'll leave it open for longer, if it's on it's way to its death, I leave it open for as long as I can. I only do one at a time, and don't clear the first one until my second one needs upload power.

Ya, unfortunately I dont use BT anymore unless I'm downloading Anime..

When I used to download "other things" I left the torrent open for a couple hours most of the time

I think you're in the clear as long as you're not downloading high profile files like early releases of The Matrix Reloaded and what not. Getting TV shows and stuff like that which is what I do most of the time is probably not worth their time going after.

leave em open?! ofcause!!! Although sometimes longer then others. No one likes a leech. As for torrents being monitored by certain companies, well its a risk you take with any p2p, its no more risky IMO then emule or kazaa. Just people over react.

    same.

not everyone should do the same though; it really all depends on upload speed. 56k users shouldn't even bother keeping connected unless the torrent doesn't have many seeds. T1/higher or leechers with a high upload cap should definitely take full advantage and seed longer.

Yeah, like TC said, I am on 56k and just immediatly clear it when I finish. I of course cap my downloads at 1k as well because let's face it, you are using between one half to one fourth of my total bandwidth and I cannot afford to give anymore.

Excuse my ignorance because I haven't been on much in the past few days, but what is the "BSA issue" ?

I try to leave my downloads open but my bandwidth isnt that good and if i seed something then my downloads begin to suffer.
What they really need to do is make a client that will manage your downloads and then once they are complete will reseed stuff for a preset length of time.
Also to be able to have stuff run silently from when you boot up so that you can restart/reseed downloads easier.

Ive been using the sourceforge torrent program PTC for some time and found it to be one of the best but if these features were added it would just stand head and sholders above the rest of the other clients - even the original.

Yeah PTC is the best and the creator is pretty actively working on it. We should tell him your idea.

The BSA (Business Software Alliance, the RIAA of software) is send e-mails and warnings to you and your ISP if they catch you sharing on BitTorrent. A lot of people have recieved warnings and some have had their connection suspended.

How come this is on the recent post list? The last post was 6 Aug!
I'm not really malicious. I'm a nice guy.
