Could someone please direct me to a good beginners guide to viewing downladed video files. I downloaded my first .avi file yesterday but got a "cannot find vids:div4 decompressor" message. I could use an easy intro to players and file types etc.
thanx

What you need is called a codec. A codec basicly tells your computer how to decode and view a file.
Have you ever installed a codec or a codec pack such as divx? Please uninstall any of those. Then go to www.freecodecs.com and get the k-lite codec pack. The small version is the one you want. Install that.
This codec pack has a program called "Gspot" as krell mentioned before. Gspot will look at a movie, and tell you what specific codecs you need, and if you have the correct ones to play it. You can go to http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ and just install it, then search google for the correct codec for that specific movie, but I think the codec pack is the easiest way to find what you need.
Let us know how it goes.
