    All of a sudden I cannot connect ?

    Have been using winmx at work for the last few months with no problems. Then yesterday (Monday 22nd) I couldnt log in ? I have not changed any settings in winmx. Perhaps the IT admin have blocked the port winmx uses ? I can access the internet but I cannot log in...

    Can anyone give me any internet connection settings to try ?

    Have you try to change the port? If not, check the WinMX FAQ & change your port settings to TCP: 16699 & UDP: 16257!

    I tried changing my post settings to TCP: 16699 & UDP: 16257 but still will not connect. If I go into my IE options and then into settings everything is blank... ie there is no proxy server set ect. If I can connect to the internet should WinMx automatically connect with mx settings at 1. don't use proxy ans 2. server/unable to accept TCP/UDP.... Please help, this is doing my head in.

    Your network administrator could have blocked any number of incoming and outgoing ports on your computer. Hopefully only incoming is blocked, because outgoing ports appear to be random when making connections, and it would be hard to work off a few.

    Here is a program called port detective, that allows you to see if a port is free to your computer. You install the program and it then pings their server to see if the port is open. If it says it is in use, it may not be open, but an application may be listening on it (like WinMX on TCP port 6699), causing it to register as in use.

    Chances are that you're screwed, because most firewalls block every port except for the ports in which exceptions have been made.

    eclectica - thanks for the reply. I tried the programme but I get an error saying the programme cannot connect to its servers which I presume means I am screwed and all ports are now blocked. If anyone has a workaround let em know. Thanks.

    If you can go on the Internet, may be you can try Http Tunneling using Proxy servers. Check this thread to learn how you can do it behind the firewall.
