Anti-RIAA Street Protest Planned

In response to the 'sue your own customer' strategy been pursued by the US music industry, a series of protests and other boycotts have been organized. Central to the series of protests is the group Boycott-RIAA and Bill Evans.

The street protests are been organized for August 2nd with a clear aim of getting a message across to the big 5 labels, the RIAA and congress. There are already street leaders planning protests in states including Texas, New Mexico and Georgia. A series of protests are been planed for various venues in California. The street protests have been gaining large momentum in recent days.

One person who plans to distribute anti-US music industry information on August 2 told Slyck that that he was doing it to show the music industry how much they have lost touch with their own consumer.

Boycott-RIAA are also, in line with the EFF, encouraging P2P users to pick up the phone and contact your Congress person and Senators on Friday August 1st to encourage them to hold hearings on p2p and file sharing.

Some other groups are attempting to organize an indefinite boycott of CD purchases from August 1.

It's going to be interesting to find out how these protest will turn out. It's pretty difficult to rely on people to organize in their area on such shorty notice. I hope for success anyways. I dont really think that the RIAA will look at the news and say; wow we'd better stop, their serious. I think the only way to stop them is at their own game.. The law.. And if that fails anonomyous P2P apps.

What if a group of Internet providers were contacted and agreed to delete their IP info every day so that they would not have to release user identity's to the RIAA.?

You have it exactly wrong, negative publicity is the only thing that could stop these people. The law isn't going to help as long as it's more or less "The Pirates of the Internet vs. The Righteous RIAA". Well organized street protests and widespread petitions will go further to changing the laws and protecting consumer interests than crossing our fingers and cheering with any minor victory.

Anonymous p2p, if it really comes to that, could be the death of p2p. If you have to hide like a damn rat, try convincing anyone that what you are doing is justified.

I think that law is the only way to fight the RIAA but the only way to change the law is with protests. Right now the democrats are the politicians backing the RIAA if the republicans see an opportunity to bring even more people over to there side by siding with the filesharing movement and against the RIAA and the democrats we might just see some rapid copyright reform considering that the republicans have the house senate and the whitehouse

Oh yeah!!!!!!! well your probably right. I have my wires crossed just in case. Plus I would hope the republicans see the opportunity.

I agree with this. I watch the news and I hear both Dems. and Pubs cowtowing to the RIAA & MPAA
