    Classic rock

Before I get flamed, this isn't another "where's the best place to find classic rock" thread.

I'm looking to burn a cd for my dad, as a gift. I listen to some classic rock, but dont really know any songs by name, so it would be very hard for me to get a full cd.

Basicly I'm wondering if you guys could help me find some hit songs mainly from the 60's. I can't really think of any examples at the moment, but classic or "oldies' rock is what I"m looking for.

Just googling I found this . Some of them are great.

Actually the majority are good, just skip the guys you have probably never heard of like Paul Mauriat for example.

Can you give any other hints as to style? Does he like Jimmy Hendrix type or more John Coltrane maybe some Cream? Or how bout just Blues stuff vs classic. Santana etc. I can get you some good stuff if you can give some direction.

And wow, awsome list CP now if we can just fine them all!???

The term classic rock encompasses a few rock sub-genres, the biggest of these being progressive rock, which was mainly a 70s phenomenon. Choose some from the list Cheapprick posted, but you'll definitely want most to be from the 1970s. Here's another list to choose from; these are scattered years but most of them could squeeze into classic rock classification. From the following list, omit as choices U2, The Cure, Dire Straits, Paul McCartney, Fleetwood Mac, The Smiths, Violent Femmes, Green Day...

http://dobeson.org/songlists.php <-- click on VIEW for "Paul's Top 100 Songs of All Time"

I know there are a few classic rock buffs here... you probably want their opinion before you make a final decision.

EDIT: classic rock means different things to different people, so you may also just want to use a classic rock station's playlist as your foundation for this compilation. Here's one:

Sorry, that wasn't very clear. At all, lol.

The beatles, stepenwolf, "truckin songs", some led zeppelin, the bee gees, a pretty wide range really. I'll check out some of those links later today.

Yeah, I'm done with the avatar thing, two of them people were disturbed by...and I think JLG is the only one that really fits me anyway.

This is a pretty good list. When I thing of classic rock in the 60s, I think of

The Rolling Stones - Satisfaction (Beggars Banquet, Let it Bleed LPs)
    The Troggs - Wild Thing
Beatles - Get Back, Help, etc (Revolver is the best LP)
    Donavan - Hurdy Gurdy Man
Kinks - You Really Got Me
Jimmy Hendrix - All Along the WatchTower
Creedence Clear Water - Fortunate One
Anaimals - House of the Rising Sun
Cream - Sunshine of Your Love
    Jeffferson Airpland - White Rabbit
Bob Dylan - Like A Rolling Stone
The Doors - Light My Fire
Simon and Garfunkle - Sounds of Silence
    Steppenwolf - The Pusher
The Byrds - Mr. Tambourine Man
Dancing in the Streets - Martha and the Vandellas
Summer in the City - Sorry, my memory is fleeting...

Any of those should ring a bell with him
