    how do i install wine?

im using lindows 4.0(the newest release) and i can't install wine! i am enjoying linux in all, downloading my music, but i want to also use some windows programs, like kl++ or bt++ or clean blubster 2.50! If anyone could take me step by step in how to install wine, that would be great. and if u say compile the sourcecode, how do i do that?

    Thank you in advanced!

Read the documentation on winehq.com , paticularly the howto's and the FAQ.

The best place to get help with wine is the comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine newgroup, it is archived by google here.

    Another great place...

Another great place would be frank's corner. He's a little more focused on our kinda work. ;>

    I believe that address is:

    http://www.frankscorner.org/

The wine tools is very handy, and there is also a special entry for kazaa lite.

I don't think blubster will work for you though.

There are some good native apps. Gtk-gnutella makes even the gnutella network look good. xMule is all you need for ed2k. And there's always freenet for the security minded.

If you are on Lindows, don't forget to look into your apt-get function. It is capable of installing lots of free software, some of which might not even be in Click'n'Run. It is a lot more feasable to screw something up with apt-get and 3rd party sources than Click'n'Run of course.

Synaptic makes a great front end to apt-get. Just to get ya started in case you don't already know:

    as root:

    apt-get update
    apt-get install synaptic

and then just type "synaptic" to get going.
(dontcha wish all installs were this painless)

    Later,

If you want to have an easy to install wine. PAY FOR IT.

This is how Linux makes its money. Buy the code weavers crossover plugin. Its an easy to install Wine.

Or you can do research on your own and figure out how to install it yourself. Theres no easy way to install Wine unless you pay for it.

I myself pay for transgamings wine, although I could install wine on my own I prefer point and click.

why should i buy crossover plugin? the only advantage that gives me is using shockwave in my browser, and i could care less for that...as for crossover office, no thanx, i prefer OOo or Abiword (since they're free)...i have no problem paying for a distro or a useful program but those are just redundant.

The solution is to download winex. Do a search for it on emule and download version 3. The filesize is about 6 megabytes. All you need to do to install it is copy it to your / directory and extract it (you need to be root).
