I know this sounds like a bit of a conspiracy theory, but if we weren't all a bit suspicious then we wouldn't be here. Has anyone else had problems with IMESH or KAZAA over the last month or so, every time I try to put them back in my system, the damn thing crashes fatally, I,m now on my fifth reset in four weeks, now I'm trying WinXP, just in case it's a bit more stable. Previous to this, I haven't had to reset in over two years. I'm wondering if something hasn't been slipped onto one or two servers, I'm running a fully updated Norton AV, so whatever it is, it's by-passing Norton, makes you wonder if it's been done with their knowledge. Three or four people at work have suffered in the same manner, all with the same software. Any ideas.

Are you a supernode? Random nut, the guy who made K++ found a vulnerability in kazaa. I don't really know how, but you can crash supernodes, effectively brining down the network. Kazaa 2.5 was supposed to fix this I believe.

What do you mean by reset?

btw, mine is running fine, and has been. Never had a problem with it.

If by "reset", you mean formatting your hard drive and doing a clean install of Windows, you probably are doing some serious overkill! Reset means to reboot your PC manually, using the Reset button (generally near the On button) or pressing Ctrl-Alt-Delete twice.

By reset, I mean a C drive format and starting againThe Windows Explorer crashed and would allow no access, nor would it start with the start up disk, nor with CD support, so the only option I could see was a full reset, I only keep the OS on C so it's not that much of a problem, just a bit annoying. Just wondered if anyone else was having probs.

What is the exact version you have, is it KMD, or kazaa lite, and have you tried NOT being a supernode?

A reformat is very extreme in this case, it shouldnt be needed.

First id forget everything about viruses , or hacks, or "slipping past" whatever.

How much memory does your PC have? How much disk space do you have left?

What kind of crash is it and what if anything does it say about the crash when it comes up?

Since your running it as a server can you tell how hot it is? If it just crashes randomly then it might be a cooling problem.

I'm using an AMD K62, running at 450 MHz, 425 meg RAM, at the time of the crashes, Win 98, with well over 1Gig left on the C drive, it was running fine for months, but the last 3 weeks or so have been a nightmare, just recently IMESH went pear-shaped twice, so I stopped using it and went back to KMD, that went bad twice, so I took them all off and upgraded to Win XP, so far it's been OK, but it does make you a bit suspicious.

Hmm, it went pearshaped? Uhh, I've never had that problem. If you are getting the BSOD, Krell and I might have an idea what the problem is. But your comp sounds a bit old.

Windows 95/98/ME is not ment to be ran as a server so running it continously it will eventually crash. You have to reboot once a day to prevent that from happening or upgrade to Win XP or 2k which is what you did and it shouldnt be crash like that anymore.

That's interesting; I've been able to keep KMD open for days without it ever crashing, and my computer has far wrose specs than he does.

I didnt say it couldnt be done.. I said that it wasnt designed to do that and if your going to be leaving your PC on for days at a time then your way better off with a NT based Operating system like Win2k or XP.

The time it takes varies from pc to pc. Some can last longer than others but if you help prevent it then its strongly reccomended that you reboot once a day. This has been known for quite a while and is another reason in addition to the connection limitis why many programs dont let win 95/98/me become supernodes, ultrapeer, or whatever equilivent like that.

The PC wasn't run continually, it used to get shut down when I wasn't using it, but Windows Explorer died on me four times now (on Win98), I couldn't even get into the system to find out what was conflicting and where. I'm now in the process of downloading K-Lite, on a clean install of Win XP, so we'll see how this goes, thanks for all the help guys, and all the ideas, still not sure what the prob was, so I'll keep looking at the thread in case anyone else has a similar problem and knows where it went wrong.
