    Compression Program

I know that when downloading over file sharing program that the smaller a file is the better. So my question is which compression do you use. Please tell me if I don't list yours.

    WinRAR

WinRAR seems to just have the best abilities as far as including multiple compressed directories (winzip can't), higher compression, etc...WinZIP is a bit easier at first though and maybe a little faster (seems to be for me).

    7-zip

I have a utility called 7-zip that is very cool.
It compresses better then winzip and a few times I have downloaded ace or rar files that had crc errors and or would not open, I used 7-zip and was able to uncompress and use the files. I don't recommend that this is good for data files, but the files were of mp3's so even if a few frames are missing on a mp3 it can be played and often sound none the worse for missing a few bytes. You can also use a application like mp3trim and fade out a awkward ending or just smooth it out. Besides a missing frame is less than one second.

Hi Guys & Gals this is my first post & already I'm being awkward
;-) I didn't take your poll because I use all three
    Winace for .ace files
    Winrar for .rar files
    Winzip for .zip files
They all compress files to roughly the same size in roughly the same amount of time.
    ;-)

    Thumbs up Ultimate Zip

I use ulitimate Zip. It looks a lot like winzip, but its free, and it supports lots of stuff. And you can skin the tool bar.

I like winRAR, seems to work great and it's easy. You can pick how big you want the file size to be if you want to split the file in two. Has other cool things as well.

I find WinZip much harder to use.

never compared the .ace and .rar compression, but rar is better than zip, plus winrar gives you an archive checking tab in the properties window. all in all zip just isnt as good:mellow

I use WinRAR, it's got more options not to mention better compression than WinZip.

    Where did you download 7-zip?

I use winzip for my *.zip files, and winrar handles all my other file types.

Why have WinZip to handle .zip file when WinRAR can make and handle .zip file to begin with. Like they say it is like two programs in one.
