Hi guys. I have some movies I want to burn to cd as vcd so I can watch them on a dvd player. I have both nero and Roxio easy cd. My problem is Nero says that the files I want to burn are too big to burn as vcd, while roxio says that they can't be burned as vcd's viewable by dvd players, unless they are mpeg files. frustrating. Any tips on what I'm doing wrong or is my plan doomed? Currently, 100 mb files are just about able to fit as vcd on one cd.

try getting your hands on EO Video. it is said to do all the audio and video encoding and will split the final mpeg file to any sizes you want. iam an nearly to finish a avi file, lol 39hrs later........
use tempng to convert the file to mpg and then easy splitter to split the files.never takes longer than 3 hrs for me

what stephen said but you wanna get then filter for the type of vcd you want. theirs bunches but the one i prefer is the pal 70 min .
thanks for the help guys. I was just wondering though, why the files I download are all 750mb avi's. I figured it was so that you could put em on a single cd. It don't make much sense though as I can't get 750 mbs cds....
you can usually get about 750 meg on a 80 minute CD if your CDR supports overburning. Nero comes with an overburning test program that can tell you the most megs you can get on the CD.
You can also get 99 minute CDs that take about 840 meg i think, maybe a bit more.
it depends on your CD R, my Lite-On 54X can write up to 99 minutes, but my LG can only go to 740 meg.
You sure you want to convert to VCD? thats quite a large loss in quality... the picture will only be 320x240 and sound will only be in stereo.
true i hear where ur coming from mate.i have a few movies on the pc that i wanna convert but when i use temnmpg it wont allow the file to either have video or audio so sometimes it isnt the right program to us.Originally posted by d3ft0n3s

I want to play the files on a dvd player (computer ain't at home) so I intend to burn them to vcd and play them that way. That is possible right?
Yes, it is very possible. That is what I do. Also, depending on what your dvd player supports, you can burn svcd or xvcd as well.

Yes and at the same time no. It i possible if and thats a big if your dvd player supports not only the vcd format but written to a cd-r or cd-rw. There is a database over here that list most of the players out there and their compatiblity. I would check here first to make sure your not pissing in the wind. http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayersOriginally posted by DonkeyWan

Also in order to get to the burning point I recommend reading a few FAQ or how to's here http://www.afterdawn.com/index-menu.cfm
Good Luck, my dvd player will play only cd-rw's but NOT all brands of discs. Very picky, so you see my point. And what everyone has said is true that vcd (mpeg1) sucks as far as quality svcd(mpeg2) is better but far fewer players are compatible.

I've given up on VCD and watching them on TV. I just lay back and watch them in the highest definition on my monitor.....get another computer or take yours with you.
