no. they have scanners which scan all of the networks. If your ip comes up on more than one file, they go "hmmm", and check and see what else you have. People get notices on kazaa, e-mule, bittorent etc...

so if everyone knows that they could be in for it, then why dont they, well stop. i know thats a bad thing, and p2p could go down, but arn't people worried they can get sued for thousands of dollas?

In the words of an infamous ZP member (who will remain un-named): "Go away you RIAA troll!"

Your "shouldn't we stop using it" opinion will not be tolerated at the worlds largest p2p forum. :hole :fire

If you are the average joe...then, no, I will not stop using p2p ... ever.

They are only going to sue users of Kazaa. Specific names and ip addresses will posted on their website as soon as they become available to give those people time to erase their hard drives.
Avoid the rush, to getting sued. Get real secure file sharing with Earthstation 5. ES5 uses proxy servers and SSL encryption to completely hide your ip address and file sharing activity.

To any newbies or other members who are paranoid about the RIAA coming after them :

Chill, Dudes, with some 50 million plus people sharing files, the odds of them trying to come after you are very slim.

Unless you have a large selection of files, they won't even take a second look at you.

They will never ultimately succeed in shutting down file sharing. What they will succed in and have already succeeded in is pissing off millions of people who are now determined to bring the RIAA and the music industry down at any cost . This is only one battle and make no mistake, we will win the war .

Even in the unlikely event the RIAA detected you, there is no guarantee they would obtain your address from your IP and even if they actually took you to court, its unlikely they would ever win. They are way off base in claiming that file sharers actually stole anything or that they incurred any loss as a result.

In addition, can you imagine the chaos that would result if everyone being sued contested the action . What do you think would happen then? I can't see shutting down the entire court system just to pursue the RIAA agenda. Not going to happen.

Filehoover, give up on the attacks on Kazaa. There is no good indication of what you are suggesting. Kazaa certainly has the most users, so numerically most lawsuits may come from it but any unencrypted p2p is open to hits.

If you want to stop using p2p, then just stop. This is strictly a personal choice. No one here (or anywhere else) is going to make that decision for you.

Since its inception almost 30 years ago, the internet has been transformed from a primitive device for sharing thoughts and ideas, into a massive network where people pay to connect and read advertisements they don't want, while calling each other "asshats".

if there are 50 million people sharing files, where the hell are they all? even on kazaa, only 4 million simultaneous users. that would be a full change in the number of users at a little under 2 hours.

    (24hrs / 2hrs) = 12 shifts
    12 x 4million = 48million

every 2 hours? a completely new group of people?

yea, that's only kazaa, but you get the idea. i wonder what the real number of file sharers is...
