Looks like the RIAA plan to sue people has the reversed effect.

Or maybe consumers figure the odds of getting busted by the RIAA's legal team are low: A recent report by research firm Yankee Group estimates that 56 million people use file-swapping software in the United States.

Either way, the number of users seems to have grown last week.

"Anytime you get media attention, you get people interested to try it out," said Michael Weiss, chief executive of Streamcast Networks Inc., which developed Morpheus.

It makes sense actually. I can't remember where I read it (maybe it was here), but all the media attention has the effect of making more people more aware of this technology. So it only makes sense that the people who hadn't heard about it, or at least who hadn't tried it, would, after hearing these things.

I agree.. In the US alone we are 56million strong. What a lobby that could be. All the RIAA is doing by their tactics is making one hell of a mess for the recording industry. TURNING PEOPLE AGAINST THEM.I used to buy CD'S Now they could not give me one.. THey are really screwed up. THis is really good news. I support the lobbing effort's and the boycott.as well Great Idea.
