Angry Computer reboots while recording video

I have been using My DVD for a while now to burn DVD's on movies I download. However, for some reason, my computer now just reboots itself while in the process of authoring the DVD. I have tried just about everything I can think of to solve this problem. My computer does not overheat, I''ve added memory, I have no hardware conflicts, I close everything when I use the program. This problem just started all by itself recenlty. I tried removing programs I installed thinking it might be that - it didn't help. I even tried downloading trial version of other DVD burning programs and the computer reboots when using them too. I am at my wits end. Can anyone help? XP home edition is my OS. If you have other questions - ask - I will answer.

Hi, what software are you using to do the authoring?

Secondly, clarify, does this happen while you are converting files, or writing to a burner?

Be very specific about what you use and the steps involved.

Right Click: My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Settings > Deselect - Automatically Restart. then OK, OK.

    krell, you're way too fast.

also, when you tell it to not restart automatically, windows will probably do the bsod (when it normally would have just restarted).

ahh, yes, microsoft can claim they got rid of the bsod by burying it in a defaulted auto-reboot.

lol. glad it didn't take much coaxing to get that one out of you :)

(you didn't mention it in the first post, so he might not have known to WRITE DOWN THE ENTIRE BSOD ERROR and then reply back)

Thanks for the help people. I found out that heat was the enemy here! I took the side cover off and set a running fan next to it and am burning DVD's like nuts. Ain't if funny how something so simple can screw us up? Anyway the problem is solved - thank God!

    heh, whatever works i suppose.

if there is that much heat in the case, investing in a case fan or two might be better then leaving it open.

heat inside a case is bad, no matter what, so you will need a permanent solution.

    dont do this

my first computer overheated way to much when i left it on all night on Napster - so i decided to open both sides up and put a huge portable fan right next to it - that thing keep Fin cool - until i figured out that using the phone right next to it and the fan can damage the hard drive.LOL so it crashed on me
    :mellow

owell my curent computer is loud because of so many fans - but it keeps cool - i just got to upgrade my volcano 7 to a volcano 9 now............
