Before I start, please understand that I'm not raging on anyone or any program that a lot of you all use. My question is that when I use iMesh almost daily I get virus alerts stemming from connections to kazaa(all versions)sharers. I appreciate the sharing without reservation, but why does this seem exclusive to kazaa. No one has ever been infected by me because my shares are checked when received and before I put them to my share folder.I'm new to zp forums so this has probably been addressed previously, so I apologise for the re-hash of old stuff. Thanx Dr.Damn for the latest "clean" iMesh.
Kazaa is the largest network right now thus they are the biggest target and thus will have more fake files. The best bet is to use one of the verified sites to ensure you're getting verified files. BTW welcome to the zoo and feel free to use the search function as there are many threads there to help you with your questions.

As long as your careful you should be ok, EG: don't download a file which says (insert film or music title here).exe.
Or a file which is supposed to film or music and is only about 20KB
As yet I still haven't received a virus from Kazaa.
If you're just carefull and don't download

-Videos
-Music
under 30 kilobytes or so... nothing can happen to you...
Can you be more specific with the virus message? Like what virus it is.
Also, are you running any firewall software? I'd recommend doing that, its possible you got a trojan that antivirus programs do not detect. If no software firewall, do you have a hardware firewall?
From what you're saying I'm not sure if this is a common problem or not, so this may or may not have been adressed in the past. Welcome to ZP!

kazaa is a preferred distribution medium for virus/trojan writers. There are so many millions of people using it, many without AV and many more without any kind of discrimination about the files they download and share. It's all very well to say never download exe files but that excludes a lot of bona fide stuff too. I've had a few nasties blocked and dealt with by my AV and as I remember they were dressed up to look like cracks for popular software and also one or two were attached to downloads of software which worked fine once Norton or AVG had done its stuff. I never had any problem that my AV(up to date!) could not deal with without any impact or inconvenience to me. Also I scan every file I download just to be sure, it only takes a second.
If you look at Symantec's pages on Norton you will see viruses and trojans etc described which are mostly distributed by kazaa.
BTW I found AVG sometimes picked up Trojans that Norton didn't see, don't know why tho.
I don't use Kazaa any more (prefer emule), not because of these issues but still it is good to have one less thing to worry about. I have not had any malicious stuff downloaded via emule (yet!) and use sharereactor if a link is vailable.
Keep your AV up to date! Always!

Hi WytWlfMn .You didn't say in your post if you used the regular (spyware and adware crap) version of Imesh or the Clean Imesh Version prepared by Dr Damn (links available at Zeropaid) . Thats the version I have 4.1, Build 133 - (spyware and adware free- it rocks) and I have never run into any viruses.
Also do you have a firewall and anti-virus program on your computer ? There is lots of information on zeropaid about both but I recommend sygate personal firewall and AVG or Avast Antivirus programs. I do a lot of file sharing on clean Imesh and have no problems. Good Luck, dude !!
Sorry for not checking in for your replies. My back went out on me earlier this week so I haven't been in the mood for screwin' around on this old pos of mine..lol. Anyway to answer a few inqueries...I use NAV 2003,Hacktracer(disabled when sharing) and dr.damn's clean imesh. The virus's I get alerted to are usually W32.HLLP.HANDY,W32.JEEFO,W32.KLEZ and a couple others. Usually when I'm gettin' full cd's or albums. I update my a-v definitions every 2-3 days. So far nothing has actully slipped by. NAV has detected everything and quarinteened all so far. Anyway thanks again for allhelp and suggestions
