    What about mp3 player?

Hey it just dawned on me that i havn't seen much about mp3 player in this whole thing.
i have over 200 cd's that are full of mp3's that i play on my apex dvd player and the mp3 player in my car.
it seems like with all the companys that make dvd players, portibale mp3 player and car mp3 player should be in on this,if what im gathering now that there tring to just flat out ban the mp3 format then what are they going to do?
that wil be lost money to them if im thinking.
and what about the .wma format or the one from real juke box?
walmart had a portable mp3 player that would play both so what the hell are they gonna do.....

    just more thoughts on this.

WTF? They can't ban the MP3. How the hell would they do that? Come to my house a erase my ripping and encoding program? Well maybe the RIAA will.............:^) What if I want to use my bought and fricken paid for MusicMatch ( yeah thats right, I bought it sppppt!) to rip my bought and paid for cd' s and I have every right to fair use and choose to make a few MP3's. I think what everyone is talking about is that your won't have plain MP3's coming from retailers online. Most of them will switch over to some secure DRM mode of encoding like WMP or RM. This of course will cause many headaches because now guys like you, who have MP3 players in everything that won't play DRM'ed files, won't be able to play them just anywhere, hence the problem. All the online sellers now use something along these lines. On place I visted even croaks your files if you don't maintain your monthly dues. So in essence your just renting the music you don't own jack. Not a good way to go in my opinion.
And on a lighter note if the MP3 goes the way of the dodo, then you have several other encoder formats out there like ogg ( open source) and aac that can be used. They just don't play on YOUR equipment!
    Time to upgrade!

    ban the mp3 format?

damn... you are a complete n00b, aren't you? you can't just ban mp3's. you could try, but enforcement would be a pain in the ass. nobody would just give up their mp3's.

well, ok, i take that back. the 750,000 complete idiots who left kazaa in fear of the riaa... they would delete their mp3's...

but anyway, every mp3 player can play at least one other format. i haven't seen any that can't play wav's (even apple's ipod can play them...)

so even if somehow, they managed to ban mp3's, all you would hafta do is convert to aac, wav, aiff, wma... or just other audio codec.

    Just like Isus said,

when they ban mp3, we'll just switch to another format...
.ogg .wma whatever... They are at least as good as mp3

A little off topic...as far as MP3 players go, if anyone is in the market for one, I highly recommend the Archos 20GB player/recorder/hard drive...you can download an alternate firmware for it called Rockbox that has tons o' sweet features and improvements...gotta love open source support.
