Unhappy can't surf while Blubster's open

I've noticed that I can't surf the net while I've got Clean blubster 2.5 running. I have IE 6.0. (My isp is netzero highspeed which also requires me to have my cookies enabled to use the software. B.c. I like the higher surfing speed, I deal with the cookies issue by running my Ad Aware program all the time and deleting my cookies often.) I don't know if the cookies could cause any problems or not, I'm just trying to throw in as much detail as possible since I'm a bit computer illiterate. Any thoughts on this people? Dr. Damn? :bk

    so, what your saying is....

no matter what, when you have blubster open (even with NO transfers) you can't go to ANY webpage?

i have problems like this when i open klite... i start dl'ing a file on my modem, and msie just keeps timing out on me. *shrug* no problems with winmx.

    for your problem:
i would say that since the high speed thing from netzero relies on compression from the server, using p2p messes it up enough to screw up your web browsing.

i.e.: you wanna see zeropaid.com. netzero's server will dl the page much faster then you can directly. netzero's server compresses it and then sends it to you. you're computer decompresses it, and shows it like it arrived normally.

since p2p traffic can't be compressed or downloaded ahead of time, blubster will use your bandwidth. since you're computer relies on the compressed info from netzero, it dies, bc blubster is using the connection.

maybe that's difficult to understand... if it is... sorry, lemme know. maybe i can show you better with numbers...

isus is right. If you're downloading fast enough your surfing can be slowed to a crawl; especially with dial-up. Add the complication of the way Netzero HiSpeed works and anything could happen. It uses either this or something just like it.

"Propel Accelerator speeds up the delivery of Web pages:

Compression. Propel Accelerator loads text and images at amazing speeds, using a special compression technology that decreases the size of Web pages and page elements sent to your web browser.
Caching. Propel Accelerator "re-uses" elements already sent to your PC, so the more you use the software, the faster your web browsing experiences become!
Persistent Connections. Propel Accelerator uses proprietary technology to optimize the line of communications between your modem and Internet servers, saving time in re-establishing connections with the web site you are currently viewing connections."

PS- Ypu could always try reducing the bandwidth Blubster uses. I don't know if tweaks would help on dial-up but it couldn't hurt to try.

    Cool

Oh, I hadn't even thought about the whole compression thing. That makes sense.
I haven't tried surfing while Blubster's open and not downloading anything. Usually if if I've got Blubster open, I'm downloading/uploading something.
I may try tweaking the settings or simply get my surfing done before I download anything. . . .
Maybe someday I'll actually get a decent raise at work, and then I'll be able to afford to get DSL or cable, and then I can get rid of Netzero . . . .
    Thanks. :wings

that's really the best option... that's what i do. just go to the websites, and when i'm all done, i just open up whatever p2p i feel like using, start a dl and then go watch tv.

    glad to help :)

sxysweetnsassy1 If you have win 98/Me then it sounds like blubster is using up all the avaible sockets which is why you cant view the web.

If you can surf the web or use any other internet program after you shut down blubster then that is whats causing it.

Only way to try to fix it is to get it to use less sockets maybe by not having alot on the downloading or uploading to conserve or to hope that a new verison gets put out that uses less.

Actually, I'm a little slow. I just realized that I can turn the compression feature off on netzero hi-speed. That may make it so that I can surf and download if there's something I absolutely must do while downloading. Thanks everyone for all the input. :fire
