what version of windows is your favorite?

i was wondering what version of windows do you guys like the most here, i currently use windows xp professional and i have to say i like it more than previous versions of windows (even with the playskool theme on), i find it to be stable, and compatible with most programs out there, the compatibility tab on programs helps sometimes, allthough i kind of miss the way windows 2000 was.

so what is your favorite windows os, and why?
A great man once said, it's better to go forward, cause if you go backwards you may trip, or cause someone to fall.

No I will not fix your computer.

you know you should really give linux a try. you know the funny thing about the l2cache on the old pentium 2 really didnt give me the power to do the multimedia stuff that a guy like me wants to do.

    Windows 2000.

And the SP4 RTP is out now (final). Download links @ www.neowin.net

Update (And I will be writing a larger one later on):

For those old-sk00l gamers who cant live without their dos games, consider using VDMSound to emulate the sound. There is also dosbox, and SoundFX 2000.

But I dont feel like going into details. Search for yourselves.

I used Windows 2000 professional in school. It was good.

Although, regradless of how much better XP and 2000 are, i've had my best experiences in the past with Windows 98SE.

I'm not basing this on which is bettter, just which i've had the best experiences with.

I have 3 computers. A DOS machine, a 98 machine, and a 2000 machine. I mostly use the 98 machine. Why? Because I'm a game player. And microsoft is such a bitch with backwards compatibility when it comes to games.

They've forced me to make a DOS machine just so I can play all those old school games without resorting to a program that slows down my processor speed. Also the DOS program in current windows operating systems is very buggy. IT just doesn't work as well as true DOS did.

Most of the games I play require 98. Half of them won't even install on the 2000 machine because they don't recognize it as windows.

I'm not too impressed with current games today. All story, and cut scenes. Very little actual "gaming." Or the game aspect is so complicated and convoluted that I just can't get into them.

Anyway, I have 3 machines and 1 monitor. So it's always a balancing act on what I'm working on.

XP no question. admitedly there were a lot of inital problems with the OS but that's why i tend to wait 12months until a new OS sorts itself out. helps if ppl actually read the recommended hardware configurations on products rather than the minumum.

XP Pro without a doubt, supports a lot more crap, hardware and software wise. Also, it is easier on the eyes and you can't beat the policy group accounts that can be made in it. I tend to think that it's a little (actual quite a bit) faster than any of the previous OS's with an exception to maybe Win2K (and yes, i got the SP4 as well, thanks!).

since this is in the windows section, i will be fair and not start any arguments about apple... (haha seph)

the best version of windows i have seen is win2000, but i haven't used win98 and have no bandwidth to dl one of the leaked win2003 things.

    so, win2000.
