Worst OpenNap Servers?
I've read people talking about crap servers, so I thought I'd make a thread so we can sort of create a Zeropaid blacklist.

There are a few that spam me that bother me the most. Like the ones which send an IM every ten minutes. I can't recall what network they were on, but I think it was ItalianNapster. The problem is, that I delete them off of my list when they spam me so I forget which ones that did so. I'll go through them all again and get back to you with a more definitive answer.

Here is my list of boycotted servers, and the reason for my boycott. Most of this comes down to subjective judgement and what I am comfortable with, so giving a reason is important. For example, if I get one IM asking me politely to join a chat room or channel, that's okay with me, but if I get repeated IMs or threats of being disconnected, then I boycott the server.
- SonikNap (the whole network) - advertise for T-shirts when doing a search.
- SonikNapMania (the whole network) - advertise for T-shirts when doing a search.
- ItalianNapster (the whole network) - spam or threats to join a channel.
- 12monkeys (the whole network) - spam or threats to join a channel.
- iow.myip.org:7777 (from Dune) - spam or threats to join a channel.
- dreamteam.servebeer.com:39461 (from Dune) - spam or threats to join a channel.
- peppinedda.hn.org:4444 (from TheNet) - spam or threats to join a channel.
- colisiquid.no-ip.org (from A.C.A.B.) - spam or threats to join a channel.
- davie.hn.org (from _ParadiseCity_) - spam or threats to join a channel.
- ltdcmdrdata3.dyndns.org:6666 (from U.S.S.Enterprise) - these are by far the biggest losers on the list. I got banned here because I refused to allow an administrator to cut ahead of the queue line for one of my files.

Both of them soniknap mania networks also send out announcments for a "girl of the week" competition.
Worst of this is that the message mostly is in Italian.
I self use the anouncment bot aswell when i feel like it, mostly when i need to reboot the server so people know why they have bin disconnected and sometimes to bring attention to the fact that we do ban and report isp's when we stumble upon porn of a nature that we find unaccaptable, thinking of kiddieporn and rape/snuff files.
I also sumtimes send out a general msg in which i state that i behold the right to record ip's and also to make them public on a forum ( also to fight of disgusting porn ). However i send out these msg's say once every 2 hours and do it about once a week.
These annoucments are a great help for people like m that run a server to get a msg across because most people dont bother to read the Messgae Of The Day. ( altough most are funny :-) )

Occasional announcements don't bother me. It's when I get repetivitve ones or threatening ones like "do not share copyrighted material", which I find to be obviously hypocritical and cowardly in the face of RIAA pressure.
I run an OpenNap server and have never sent IMs to the whole membership, but I might be tempted to if I am restarting the server at a certain known time, because I know that everyone's queues gets screwed up when they disconnect and reconnect to the server.
I don't like the idea of kiddie porn, but I don't try to manage what kind of files the users are trading.
"He who manages least manages best."
Huize, I appreciate your looking for feedback and comments, because it's nice to deal with someone who doesn't stonewall the issues. That will also work towards the improvement of your network and server too, as people will let you know if there is a problem. You have a good attitude.

well where would a network be without its users, so they matter and so do their opinions.
btw i asked that question because i am currently using a teknap script that has 5 triggers ( one for another sort of porn download ) and in the worst cases like rape files or kiddieporn it sends the uses a im ( agresive one to show we disaproof of what he/she is doing) then it sets to leech, ban's ip bans nick and then kills and sends out a announcment with : usernick was banned for downloading <offensive material> . Please dont download this stuff on ballad.
I like the general idea behind it but i can also understand that people can get irritated by the msg's they get from a server/network...thus thats whay feedback is verry appreciated
and for the riaa part this is a part of MOTD :
"So go on endulge yourself in the wonderous world of Ballad!
~
OWWW and for the RIAA, sucks huh that im in the Netherlands, haha get the hell of off my server u dumshits :-)
~
Some lame stuff to know about this here server:
It runs on sum old comp with sum Ram stuffed into it, and sum processor, it connects to the internet with a series of 1K modems glued together and sum rats in wheels to make it go faster. It stays online 24-7 altough reboots every day. On a good day u can find all the files u want here, On a bad day u wont find anything."
so thats my opinion in that matter <add evil grin>

i mean that opennap protocol is dead.
reasons why i think that way:
1. it doesn't support multi-source download (actually it does, but it's hard to implement and it implemented only in dagsta)
2. user loggs on several servers and shares file on all of it instead of loggin on just one and searching all. because of it whole network is inefficient
3. chat is decentralized. better use one centralized irc server and don't mix p2p and irc
4. clients are not compatible with eachother (worst is winmx) and that causes lots of problems
5. it allowes to run different evil bots like chat invitation that doesn't allow user to peacefully share/download files
6. all server-client messages are in plain text and that creates huge useless traffic and makes servers less efficient
...that's all that came in mind in just one minute while i was typing it, but there are other reasons.
If you want to run normal p2p server better run edonkey server (personally i don't like overnet because it is too slow and uses too much memory, especially on slow computers like mine)
or wait for new p2p programs that are coming...
P.S. what kind of title is that under "CyberAlien" - "File sharing newbie"? lol.
