Heres the simple solution I came up with (it works on the 4 models I have - AiW 32mb PCI/64mb AGP/256mb AGP and 128mb AGP).
The answer is...DON'T INSTALL THEIR BLOODY SOFTWARE! If you run XP all the basic drivers are built in, and MS (for once) did good. They just happened to forget to add in the macrovision detection code to their version of the ATi WDM drivers!
So if you've already installed their trash...you'll either have to find out where the backup's of said ATi drivers are (I'm guessing they over write XP's in the cab install) and remove them or just do a clean format to be damn sure...don't install their 'media center' software nor the drivers....
Now once XP is up and running install a brand spankin' new copy of VirtualDub go to the file menu and scroll down to 'Capture AVI' and go from there...the capture software is better then ATi's anyway and you can grab bit's of a DVD for music videos or grab off old tape that has macrovison.
Post if you have any questions or can't figure it out...
Also, download my favorite uncompressed codec (think APE audio doing video) - http://www.divx-digest.com/software/huffyuv.html
Now you can get your bloody AiW to capture @ 640x480 without having interlace problems... (in huffy's settings select deinterlace on playback (re-encoding as well)
Also on huffy...leave all the settings a 'best' and select uncompressed PCM wav audio @ 172kbs...then encode that along with the video later in Vdub....
Anyway, with that said...enjoy..!

Thats also why i dont like ATi. The All in wonder card forces you to encode in their propierty format which sucks.
I feel ya pain. I made that mistake of installing their crap and it looped all my display settings.:devil
What are you talking about? I wish they had a propriety codec built in that actually worked. I've been using Huffyuv, and it's alright, but for keeping the file sizes down, MPEG2 (my 8500DV has built in hardware compression) does a good job if you set the resolution so that it's 352x480 (yes it is higher than wide, but it plays back at a better resolution so you won't have interlace problems).Originally posted by Sephiroth
