    Ads and Websites Poll

hey we all hate spyware and adware infected programs......

but websites are also carrying deadly cockies and links,
popular program spybot redirects such links back to localhost (127.0.0.1), one such example is media.fastclick.....looms on zp as well,

i was having trouble with the back button on browser as it displayed media.fastclick.net, so i edited my HOSTS file to allow this adserver,

question is do u allow websites do display ads, or block em???

I use the proxomitron....but their website seems to be down :green5

    www.proxomitron.org

I know where to download it, but you need to sign up for their yahoo group. Its the best popup blocker I've ever gotten

Hmm........I don't see many of those. What websites do you frequent? haha jk

Anywho......As for popups, those are taken care of through my browsers MyIE2, Slimbrowser, and Mozilla Firebird.

I block the ads using eDexter, The Proxomitron, and WebWasher classic........I use all of them for different purposes, but probably use WebWasher the most. It kills web bugs and scripts and has a great featured filterlist.

All I use is Adshield. It's the best ad blocker I've ever seen. I've used it for over a year. It used to be completely free but now it has a price. It's still worth paying for. It really is the BEST ad blocker I have ever used.

In addition to that, to block spyware I use IE-Spyad , Spywareblaster , and Spyware Guard . Also, have a pretty big hosts file. Use Spybot and Ad-aware every couple weeks, and use AVG Anti-virus and Sygate Firewall behind a Linksys Router. =)

I never get any junk on my computer unless I put it there.

You can download a ready made hosts file from this site:

    http://www.smartin-designs.com/

It saves having another program running.

That's exactly where I get my database for hosts file. I find it to be large, well maintained, and frequently updated. For simplicity purposes, sometimes I just run eDexter to have transparent images in place of the ads. I use The Proxomitron and WebWasher to further protect my privacy.

PiRaNeTuS: Nice........I have the ones you have except for IE spyad.....I'm looking into it right now.

You can still get Proxomitron (as well as many filters, tutorials, and add-ons) from Computer Cops.

    http://computercops.biz/downloads-cat-19.html

The actual program is on the second page and none of the downloads require registration.

I think Phalkon in particular will be saddened by this news:

I too use adshield. Although the new version is not free, I still have the free version from the 2.x series installed. I have the old installer as well.

The only downside to adshield is that it can only be used with IE.

I use AdMuncher. I see no ads or pop ups.

It gives me mixed feelings tho, because alot of the sites I go to (good example: zeropaid) have pop ups, which no doubt help finance the site.

    Anyway, carry on.
