    Hot Bittorrent Sites

    What is BitTorrent?

Bittorrent (http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/index.html ) (BT) is a new multi-source downloading peer2peer client similar in nature to Kazaa and WinMX. (See The Beginners Guide To FileSharing http://www.zeropaid.com/news/articles/auto/10012002j).

The notable difference between this and other clients is that it doesn't have a user-interface except for browser links (SHA-1 hashes) that start your download. So it's no good looking in the Start Menu for it once you have installed it. Bittorrent runs in the background, waiting for you to click a special hyperlink.

It is able to download parts of files from clients, it need not necessarily be a complete file that the other users have have, hence you should get good download speeds.

    Instructions

    1. Install BitTorrent. Go to http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/download.html the download links are near the bottom.
    2. Use your browser and go to one of the sites below.
    3. Click a link, any old link will do, but preferably a file you want, and your download will start.

    Common Questions in Operation

    Q. Does Bittorrent Support Resume? Other clients do, what's up with that?

Yes it does support resuming downloads, just save your download to the same location as the existing partial download. BitTorrent will resume where it left off after checking the partial download.

    Q. My download is taking up megabytes of space, and it isn't even finished downloading. What's up with that?

    A. Bittorrent allocates file space before the download is finished. So it will look like it has finished before it has.You should check the BitTorrent download window for the percentage downloaded; you probably won't find anything of use in the download directory until you hit 100%. (The download window will show "Download succeeded" instead of an Estimated Time Left).

    Q. I am a mean webmaster, you should see my homepage, it's well really MEAN. Those special links then...what's up with that?.

    A. Stop saying "what's up with that?" will you? Anyway, serving torrents (see "Terminology" below) is beyond the scope of this document. Wait for the follow up.

It Doesn't Do Anything, Where Do I Get Files?

If you get your get your fingers pricked, try these BT compatible alternatives :

    BT++ http://btplusplus.sourceforge.net/
    Bittorrent Experimental Client http://ei.kefro.st/projects/btclient/
    Burst Client, http://krypt.dyndns.org:81/torrent/

    Verdict

At first everything went well and then, unfortunately, my connection went down. After this when I was clicking on the download links BT wouldn't do anything. After a reset and reinstall it worked again.

I tried downloading and, after a while, it started downloading at rates between 2KB/s and 10KB/s. 2KB/s-10KB/s is hardly "maxing out my connecting", as I was lead to believe BT would do. This, I believe, was an old file with few people "seeding" (or "having") the file.

At the time of writing this review there were very few good sites for downloading, and I coudn't find anything worth my while.
However, less two weeks later, and here I am downloading at my maximum speed with the latest files.

I am VERY pleased with Bittorrent.

    Bittorrent Terminology

tracker = The server. What you must download files from. The websites with the links are running Bittorrent trackers

.torrent/torrent = The metafile describing your download to Bittorrent. When you click a link you are actually opening a torrent file. You can can actually save the torrent to disk and open it without a brower.

seed = To serve a file.

NOTE: The list of sites for Bittorrent is continually being updated. This post is continually being updated.

The current lack of good sites for downloading, especially one with a good search engine meant even with it working I coudn't find anything in particular worth downloading.

I, personally, will wait until BT has matured before trying it again.

you obviously tried bittorrent at the wrong time.......bittorrent is having problems latley, how about you wait until a good site comes back up and the network start thriving again and then use it. you bad review is not needed bittorrent kills winmx any day. What is there to mature, bittorrent is just having a hard time with the matrix reloaded.

The review happened when it happened

So it's no use complaining I should wait. It had to happen now as it was requested. And you both agree that Bittorrent at the moment is a "bit off"

It's not my review that's total crap, it's Bittorrent.

How can it expect to attract any new users, when you compare it with the FastTrack network?

Speaking of the MPAA, with their new Neo powers, the new bittorrent sites will go down faster than teachers salaries

    Bittorrent help?

Does it matter if you try and get an old file or a new file? In respect to download speeds, that is.

Please only anwser if you know, rather than speculate.

well, trying to download old torrents may mean a lack of people seeding the torrent, ie....less speed.
