    how-to avoid queues

well, this is my contribution to the how-to's. i'm sick and tired of people complaining about queues.

    you have 2 options:
if you have a lot of time on your hands (like i do), you can follow these steps:
    1. start winmx, wait for it to connect, search for a file.
    2. pick the file. any file. no matter how many people it has for sources, no matter how big any queues are. one source with a wait list of 94 will do just fine.
    3. select the file and begin the download. make sure you become remotely queued for the file. you might have to click "enter remote queue" if you have it set not to auto-queue.
    4. at this point, you should have a file, with one source, and you will be #95 in line. go back to the networks tab.
    5. click refresh, or disconnect. refresh will most likely use a node that winmx has already recieved at startup to reconnect. clicking disconnect, waiting a minute, then clicking connect should provide better results, as winnmx will requery for a new set of nodes.
    6. wait to reconnect to the network, then head back to the transfers tab. click "find more sources now" or "search for alternates". find more sources will not look for any busy hosts, but it also skips over some available as well. i usually go with search for alternates just to be safe.
    7. if you can't find any new sources, then you got a crappy node when you reconnected. go back to number 5.

the second option is to dl a program which will constantly search for more sources. the only disadvantage to progs like this, is that if you start dl'ing a very popular file, you may end up with 100's of sources in a few seconds, and this WILL slow down your dl of the file. i recommend searching the forums here to find a good prog for this... they are all very different, and i have not used them all.

    Thumbs up

Well done, and i should have done this myself. It is so straight forward, as to make us old timers smarten up, and get back to work.

It was only a matter of time before Isus made this thread, and it doesn't disappoint.

Thanks a lot. I was still a bit fuzzy on the refresh/disconnect thing.
    I need a better sig

Just remind everyone when u refresh U lose your current name and thus your previous que positions. Only refresh as a last ditch

im not calling you wrong or anything, but i've never seen this. when i disconnect and reconnect, i haven't lost my position in queue.

of course, if you disconnect and then winmx needs to query the network to find your current queue position, it will say you timed out. thats when you lose position.

but the faster you disconnect and reconnect from the time you remote queue, the better.

It doesnt happen suddenly, but next time winmx checks the(user your queing from) que positions it will see your user name has changed( the number st the end) and thus your position will be pushed to the bottom of their list. This is a huge problem winmx is supposed to be working on fixing. Happens alot if you use secondary connection, every time the primary your hooked into changes, you lose position.

    Im wrong all the time
