Big Oops (concerning BT++)

There was something today I noticed in my software list, there was this strange program which I didn't know. It looked a bit like some spyware app or something, so I uninstalled it. The next thing I found it is BT++ not working anymore. Well it starts up, but it's not uploading and downloading. I tried uninstalling and re-installing BT++ but it's still not working. But the program I uninstalled from my software list isn't coming back either. Should I format now in order to get BT++ working again?

I think removing that unknown program was a bad idea ....maybe someone can check his software list and notice this strange program (someone who has BT++ installed)

Do you remember the name of the program you're speaking of?

Heh. Are you really sure you want to reformat just to get BT++ back? Make sure you delete the BT++ program folder before reinstalling. Maybe that would help. You might also want to check out the experimental BT client. It's not as pretty, but it provides many of the same functions.

And if your tech proficient, make sure to empty the registry of the entried after you unistall BT++, and then proceed to go back and install the program as if it was a clean start, so that your computer does not know that it has had that program before, except for the "Windows Log" :shy ---- We all know Microsoft gets Windows to keep a log, dont we?

The experimental version of Bittorrent that I use doesn't really have an uninstaller so I'm not sure what you removed...however there is a very good reason for the bittorrent client to not upload or download...sometimes the tracker (the place the bittorrent client talks to in order to ensure your client can find sources for download and to let others know you have bits and pieces of a file they need) may be down.

This happened recently with a lot of the popular Bittorrent sites when Matrix 2 (matrix reloaded) came out...the sites (trackers) just couldn't handle the overwhelming response....kind of like a "slashdot" effect or an inadvertent denial of service attack when the site (tracker) can't handle all the attempted connections to it...

other times there may simply be no more sources aka "seeds" for the file you want...in cases like this you are just "out of luck"...bittorrent releases are usually on a first come first serve basis and have limited life span usually of one week sometimes two weeks...

however here's a helpful tip for those of you new to bittorrent who want to help it grow...it is possible to reseed a file even after you've closed the download window...

If you have a fully completed download...just click on the original torrent link (best to download the .torrents to your harddrive so that you can re-use them again later to "reseed" files if you choose do so)

Just double-click on the .torrent file (for the file you've already finished download) and when the "save to" dialog pops up...choose to save it to the location where you now have the fully completed download (from a previous session...location doesn't matter but i think it needs to be on your harddrive and not on a dvd-r or cd-r) anyways...the bittorrent client will scan the file and recognise that it is "complete" and then open an upload window this enables others to download the file from you and is really helpful in supporting your favourite sites like supernva when you see "re-seed" requests..this is what they mean by it.

oh one last tip.

To unistall the experimental client...you will need to delete its program folder then the following registry keys:

Then if you want to re-install it you can. :O)

Well about 95% of ZP thinks so and I have not gotten it to work hardly, I'll stick with BT++. Would you like me to start a poll about this topic and see what the community thinks?

Well I don't like Shareraza as it hardly can't find anything, searching takes ages, downloads are slower. Plus all the good hits come from the Donkey network.

Anyway I got BT++ working again, after re-installing, rebooting and editing my registry several times. Strange... but oh well. I also got rid of 0.5.3 and installed 0.5.4.

wouldn't it b good if Shareza re-seeded files when it loads up, at least for bittorrent it would be. Though first they would need to get it working well. But otherwise I think shareza is a great app.

well my version of bt experimaental doesnt have any spyware coz i did a check after i installed it and have checked my pc 3 times since then

did u download the bt client from the offical website maybe some one alter it if u downloaded it from a unoffical place

cant see that happening but u never know

Well I wasn't talking about the regular BT, but BT++. Read carefully dude :P
