What is the safest p2p program to use with out getting caught. I have norton for a firewall. Kazza didn't work for me got caught. Meidaforce sent a letter to my ISP and I am a little worried and don.t know which one to use. What would you advise me to use????????
HELP
MEDIAFORCE SUCKS:cross :devil :
ES5 (but is it still a buggy, porno infested half-app that relies on third-party-apps heavily)
FileTopia and it's bouncer nodes for privacy.
FreeNet for it's (sarcasm) high-speed (/sarcasm) anonymous transfers.
Although, if you go on the less popular networks, you'll probably be safe enough.
Check out BayTSP's site and the protocols that they say they're monitoring for a better idea of what to go with and what to avoid if you're worried about being caught again!
And yes, MediaForce suck.

there is no such thing as "safe" p2p app.. but yea as of now only kazaa users have been getting letters and warnings.. so u can prolly use anythin else.. i recommend shareaza .. get the lastest one 1.8.8.3 remember its a network that is still growin so dont expect it to go fast or have lots of content like kazaa
your local video store. :)
nah if you really that worried try settting up a secure hub for you and your friends.
but dont worry to much. mpaa is not that evil like the riaa.
peace
i would still use KaZaA, but just not share any copyrighted material. Set your upload directory to a different location than your download directory. :)

[size=1]Currently Using:[I]
KaZaA Lite K++ Edition
WinMX w/ QuickMX
Nullsoft Winamp 2.91
WMP 9
All clients are safe. Just relax. Try them and pick the one that works for you.
BayTSP says:
Currently we support the following p2p protocols:
Kazaa
Grokster
iMesh
BearShare
XoloX
LimeWire
Gnucleus
Gnotella
Morpheus
WinMX
eDonkey2000
Direct Connect
Hotline
By "support" they mean that their automated program searches the above p2p networks 24x7 looking for infringments. I'm not sure how they built automated search technology for the closed source networks like Kazaa. Maybe they use a Windows Macro generator to control Kazaa and a packet sniffer to automate the retrieval of results (kludge) or perhaps Sharman has licensed Fast Track source code to them.

Apparently Filetopia is too small to bother with? And Frost is too hopeless?

If every one did that then there would be nothing to share! Your more likely to die of a bee sting or struck by lightning than get in trouble for using P2P! Although there is still a tiny risk I guess, but thats a small price to pay!
BayTSP looks pretty serious. If it finds infringing material it automatically creates a DMCA complaint and sends it to your ISP.
I suspect that the only reason it isn't tracking down everyone is that BayTSP is only a service. The clients (like Universal, Sony, etc) have to specify what files to look for and that is a massive task. They probably are only checking for Eminem and Madonna right now.
They have no incentive to track infringers down unless paid to do it by the Copyright Holders (record companies and artists). However, if the Record Companies want to seriously pursue this, no one that uses those above networks, and shares popular material, and is in the States will be immune from getting a DMCA notice. Virtually every country in the world subscribes to the Copyright Treaties and BayTSP also automatically generates Cease and Desist letters (which are not much use unless they are will to pursue a lawsuit).
However, I figure if it gets out of hand (hundreds of complaints a day or more ) ISPs will have no choice but to start ignoring. Maybe that is why they are starting off slow, to see how it goes.
Or you could use a p2p app which, uses proxies, hides your ip address and will 100% prevent you from being fingered, uh, in the criminal sense that is.
This is just opinion, but it might be close to the truth. I reckon that...
The reason BayTSP can get on Direct Connect is because of a few mods to the open source DC++ or because of 3rd party search bots (like GloSearch) making the job easy for 'em. The reason BayTSP can get on KaZaA is because there's a few skiddiot projects already out there for the FastTrack protocol (you can even find programs that interract with KaZaA users on planetsourcecode.com) The reason BayTSP can get on Hotline is because the whole protocol is very well documented by 'Virtual' and there is also source code available for this. EDonkey - Emule? And the Gnutella networks, well, I'm pretty sure there's open source code out there too.
One thing I am curious about though, is whether they are illegally using open-source code for profit despite any policies laid down for the employment of that code?
Bunch of opinions and a question that'll probably never be answered but if I can insinuate that BayTSP are lamers who steal code, it's probably been worth it. :;)
Open source is good, but sometimes it helps the wrong people, I reckon that's why BayTSP can check so many protocols now!! Just a thought?!? :(

Yeah a lot of countires singed up to the Universal Copyright Convention. All it does is if someone in USA copied someone else's work who is in Canada illegally, then America takes action against that person and vice-versa.
The thing is I heard some time ago someone in USA patented a certain type of sandwich. Now, the sandwich is English, bet when the patent was filed they didn't ask the correct Englishman permission now did they?!
Or what's more, is that I didn't know you could patent something in ur name, without permission of the orginator, that is based on a previous item.
You hear this all the time like between computer companies, like Adobe and Macromedia. So why not the sandwich eh? If it's b/c it was around b4 the patents existed, and can't be patented, then how can any patent a new sandwich on top of that?........I'll stop now lol
p2p isn't for everyone.
Are you paying your isp?
Do you know there are about 12000 isp's?
To share is nice. Sharing helps others.
Sharing is not wrong.
Buying what you need is simple fast and fairly dependable.
Useing p2p is time consuming fairly undependable and requires alot of time fixing things on your computer.
Do you like spending alot of time messing with your computer?
If yes, forget norton, forget the bad people, and start sharing.
If no, then p2p just ain't your thing.
kazaa, kazaa, shareaza, and bearshare are all good.
Cheers,
the only thing that makes p2p safe is Peer Guardian. ban the right ip's (mostly riaa and other evil corps...) and you should be upstreaming copyrighted material carefree. not like i would do such a thing :wings
Less upload time, or balance your upload and download. Sometimes an ISP will monitor your upload usage. It will be a clue to them your sharing if your upload bandwidth is constantly pegged.
All I can say is "Trust me on this one"
Try and check if the user downloading from you has files available. Sometimes, if you check and they have 0 files in their share folder, write to them.
If they have it blocked thats a clue. How would he know to disable the chat feature but not know to have files available, of any kind in his share folder.
Yes Im brushing with a broad brush. I know that, but its a clue.
This isnt by any means the only or even best, but just an "example" of little things you can do.
See if the files they have available for download are little trivial files.
Another example, does all he/she have for sharing is old spanish versions of songs and trying to download Matrix english version? Not that I am sharing Matrix, but its been in the news so much, figured I would use it as,"you guessed it" an example
:fire
Another clue, these little things help.
Oh, and GET PEER GUARDIAN:black
Just because your entitled to your opinion,
doesn't mean your actually right.!!!!!
