Hi! I'm confused by something. When I search I sometimes see something like "4% of xxxxx." Sometimes it seem that this is a file I have already partially downloaded that resides on my hard drive. Other times this doesn't appear to be the case and looks like it might be the percent of the file that the other user has on their hard drive. Can anyone clarify this for me?
Also, when I Browse someone else's folder I often see similar percentages. In this case, does this mean that they have only a certain percent of this file downloaded?
I appreciate any light someone can shed on this for me.
Thanks.
Are you using WInmx or eDonkey or what? Sounds like QueMX to me. Yes, it just the fact that the person doesn't have the entire file....yet....or ever in most cases with QueMX. Sorry, I don't mean to be a downer but I'm trying the new QuickMX and it's not doing jack. :mellow

Oops! I thought this was a WinMx forum. It's WinMx.
Yeeeeep! If you see a percentage then most likly you are looking at a partial file, i.e. what ever percent of the file that person has downloaded at that point. I know you see it a lot with WinMX, like "infy" said eDonkey, too.Originally posted by ealvin

All of your assumptions appear to be correct. This is the WinMX forum, & those percentages indicate partially downloaded, incomplete files.Originally posted by ealvin

for the benefit of all sentient beings
when i browse.....i always thought that those partial files were files they were downloading at the time.
just that none of my "incomplete" files show up in my shared files...why would there's?
just like when i see the one i might be downloading off them, will show the percentage that i have gotten at the time i was viewing it.
someone correct me if i'm wrong.
;)

I'm guessing it wasn't orginally and that it was moved by mods. All of your assumptions appear to be correct. This is the WinMX forum, & those percentages indicate partially downloaded, incomplete files.
You can't triple stamp a double stamp.
When you see partial percentages of files in the share collections of people, it is probably because their incoming downloads folder is the same as their shared folder. Their files can still be used for multisourcing.
I've noticed in the transfers window, that at times a person gets a song faster than the connection would suggest. For example, the person gets a 5 MB file in 1 minute, uploading at a rate of 4 KB/s from me. Normally such a file size and speed would take about 20 minutes. What is happening is that the person is multisourcing, and the that's why the file goes faster than the speed would suggest. The K/s is the amount of bandwidth the person is getting just from you, but the Time Left factors in the overall progress of the file with multisourcing.
i'm guessing it was originally, and the original responder didn't know what forum he was in. happens all the time.Originally posted by Ken17625
