Today's thought is:
Reputation is what you have when you come to a new community;
character is what you have when you go away.
--William Hersey Davis
All of us have a reputation. But even
though we may introduce ourselves by our reputations, that
in no way reflects upon our character - who we are as people.
As people begin to know us, they learn how we think, what we feel,
why we do what we do, what we like or dislike. These things make up
character. When we refer to someone as "quite a character," we are
referring to a unique personality, a person who stands taller than a
reputation.
Do we show others our reputation or our character? Sometimes it's
easier to hide behind the walls of a reputation by being snobbish, silent,
or sarcastic. Yet it's our character that is far more important. Our
character allows us to be who we are and lets us show how we feel.
Reputation can make someone look at us, but character can make
someone look twice and notice us.
May you always run with the wind at your back and good friends by your side.

Today's thought is:
When we were young, our parents and siblings served as our teachers,
but they weren't always good ones. We may have learned habits that
haunt us still. Shame and guilt may still trouble us because of the
messages our parents and siblings gave us. We can't undo the past
teachings, but we can come to believe those teachers did their best.
They passed on to us what they had been taught. We discard behaviors that serve us no
more and cultivate ones that do.
We're students of life and we'll encounter many teachers. From some,
we will learn patience; from others, tolerance and acceptance. A few
will make us laugh. All will change us in some way. We may be apt to
pass judgment on the interactions we have with others, bur those with
more wisdom than ourselves remind us that we can learn. In fact, we
are privileged to learn something of value in absolutely every
interaction. Our teachers are all around us.
I will accept that every person is my teacher today. I may be in for
many surprising lessons!
May you always run with the wind at your back and good friends by your side.

Today's thought is:
I was tender and often, true;
Ever a prey to coincidence,
Always I knew the consequence;
Always saw what the end would be.
We're as Nature made us - hence
I loved them until they loved me.
--Dorothy Parker
Did Nature really make us so that we despise those who love us?
Groucho Marx's joke, "I wouldn't belong to any club that would have
me for a member," implies the same thing. But this can't be; we're
children of the universe, each of us exactly as lovable and fallible as all the others.
Many of us go through years of upheaval in which we want only what
we can't get. If we should get it, heaven forbid, it turns to rubbish in our
hands. Some people call this the "reverse Midas touch," and it's
common enough so that we all recognize it.
This is a symptom of self-mistrust, of self-dislike. If we believe in
ourselves, we'll evaluate those who are drawn to us on their merits. For
someone to love us doesn't automatically mean that they're deluded. It
might simply mean that they love us.

My thought of the day:
Why do I continue to : slave long hours at a job which does not pay me what I am worth, and listen to a government which does not care about me, and only dream of writing that novel which could make me not have to worry about money any longer, and sit in the basement messing with my computer when I could be out in the sunshine, and constantly worry about the neighbors kids stopping over to bother me, and think about how I could be in Canada making a living as a furtrapper living in a cabin in the middle of the country with only a train to drop supplies to keep me alive through the winter, and wonder about why God gave women absolutely no sex drive whatsoever and men too much, and ponder the ramblings of many a poet who does not rhyme anymore but who just puts together hip commentary on city life, and concentrate on what it would like to live on a different planet and time like on Arrakis and to be able to see all the future like Muad'dib and be able to ride giant sandworms and roam the dunes all my life long and live off the spice...
time for bed and another day of pain tomorrow.

Today's thought is:
We wonder, "How can I ever say this?"
We need to be free to talk about anything in our intimate relationships.
Some things are very hard to say - an old secret we have never told
before, a feeling or an observation our partner does not want to hear, a
mistake we made that calls for confession. We wonder, "How can I
ever say this? How can I avoid hurting myself or my partner?"
Not all things need to be said at once. Readiness is the first part. We
can get ourselves ready to speak. The second part is timing. When we
are ready, we wait for a good moment to appear, a moment in which
our message will fit. The third part is love. Honesty coupled with care
and love is healing and strengthening. Some pain is necessary in a
growing relationship, and we can tolerate it because it leads to more
understanding and more peace of mind.
Think of one new thing you would like to tell your mate about your
thoughts, feelings, or behavior.

Transforming Into The Potential
Personal transformation cannot be governed by rules or format, allowing our personal vision to survive intact. Freewill is how we reach our ultimate potential.
Every person is unique. Transformation is always an individual process that uses the uniqueness of each human being and develops its own way of becoming. The timing is different for each person, the goals are varied, the vision is ultimately personal, and no part of “the process of becoming” is externally directed.
The personal will of human beings determines how they grow, how they change, what they sense, and what the outcome will be. To put rules or regulations on how a flower blooms would be ridiculous. No human, or human-made organization can force or subdue the process of internal change. Personal transformation is one of the mysteries of the life process that contains miraculous potentials.
If you are trying to become what others want you to be, these rules can keep your personal will in denial. If you are following a set lesson plan, it won’t work. Is it time to let your heart’s greatest joy take the lead? If so, you will find the ingredients that allow you to become your vision----in your own time and in your individual way!

Today's thought is:
Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature
into his pictures.
-- Henry Ward Beecher
Our perception of any experience, even the smallest detail of an
ordinary event, is quite exceptional. No other person will share our
particular vision. Frequently that results in arguments. The need to be
right is a common affliction. If only we could appreciate the richness of
sharing and combining our views.
Because of our age, we may assume we have more wisdom than others.
On occasion, we will. However, we have something to learn from all
souls who cross our path, or they wouldn't be there. Understanding this
is real wisdom.
What a dull world this would be if we all shared the same perception of
every event. There would be nothing to discuss, no opportunity to
expand our minds, no reason to interact at all. Instead we are blessed
with opportunities for conflict and growth, the deepening of
relationships and character development, choices, and decisions. All
because we each see what we see.
How I see an experience today is unique but neither right nor wrong. I
will remember the same holds true for all my friends, too.

Earning Your Feathers
Long ago, among Indian Nations, our wise ones taught us that we had to earn our Eagle Feathers. This meant that we were judged by our actions, which showed whether we were worthy of wearing the medicine contained in Eagle’s Feathers. Acts of kindness, unselfish generosity, caring for those in need, and being good role models for children emulated those high ideals. Eagle Feathers were not passed out indiscriminately to anybody who wanted to dress up their regalia.
Today, we are asked to observe how people are walking their lives, and how we are walking ours. Are the people who use their lives to help others being honored? Are we too busy to see the value of those who are earning their Eagle Feathers? Have we forgotten to acknowledge them for the role models they give humankind? If others have walked tall, influencing your life, it may be time to let them know how deeply you are grateful. If they had not walked tall, would you know the difference between earning respect and expecting the world to contribute to you?

Finding Your Fire
Risk choosing the uncertain instead of the predictable, and you will never tire of being alive.
Life’s deepest command urges us to grow and evolve through probing the unknown, through abandoning the security of the commonplace, and through trusting that if we set one foot on the road of the unexpected, the path will rise up to support our desire to explore.
Expecting anything less of ourselves can convince us to succumb to mediocrity. We can only masquerade behind timid facades, living amateur lives, for so long. Ultimately, the self-created trap will snap shut with a thunderous roar! Those already numbed, tied in the mental straitjackets of absolute and rigid views on life, may not even notice when the trap was sprung.
Today, we can choose to vary our experiences by taking alternate routes to work, trying new things, not being afraid of breaking out of the ingrained habits that produce dissatifaction.
May you always run with the wind at your back and good friends by your side.

Today's thought is:
If you keep saying things are going to be bad, you have a good chance
of being a prophet.
--Isaac B. Singer
We all know men and women who are too often critical and negative.
Sometimes we, too, are these people. And when we fall into this trap of
negativity, our life becomes unnecessarily complicated.
Any behavior we commit to practicing regularly is strengthened,
whether it's positive or negative. It benefits us then to practice
developing and holding a positive outlook rather than a negative one.
Making the decision each day to quiet our mind, clearing it of
negative expectations, is not a mysterious or difficult undertaking. It is
rather an opportunity to influence in meaningful ways the many
experiences we're destined to have.
We're empowered by claiming responsibility for how we perceive and
respond to our opportunities, and thus for whom we are becoming.
I will look at today as a day full of promise with hope and gladness in
my heart.

It's weird.. but a lot of these daily whatevers seem to say the same thing a lot..
we can choose how we handle things.
we can choose to let things make us unhappy, angry, bitter, sad, etc. or choose to not let them effect us negatively and instead just go "oh well, never mind" and carry on, without getting so wrapped up in the negativity.
Life's all about up's and down's. All your life's opportunities are never there on the same day. Tomorrow is a new day, you never know what could happen to go in your favour.
2 years ago I lost my house, my girlfriend, my job, my car and my dad was in hospital on life-support having just collapsed (they almost lost him!!). It all happened within 2 weeks and I felt as low as I think I ever have... but I held on because I knew tomorrow was a new day and that no matter what, things can improve. Life kicks you in the teeth sometimes, but if you roll with the punches, control the negativity and know that some day things will get better, you'll be alright. It's a stupid-ass cliche.. but there's truth in it... time is a healer.. it's just realising it and hanging on that's the hardest part.
Peace!!
