when windows longhorn comes out next year, should i even consider upgrading to it from windows xp? i heard some bad things about palladium that you can't even open up your own word documents or something. exactly how does palladium work, does it only let you install software approved by microsoft, or can you install other programs that are normal like kazaa?
im guessing that longhorn will need for someone to have more ram because i hear it will take advantage of your graphics card to give windows a more 3dish like look.

No I will not fix your computer.
you know you should really give linux a try. you know the funny thing about the l2cache on the old pentium 2 really didnt give me the power to do the multimedia stuff that a guy like me wants to do.

i wont be upgrading to longhorn... apple is getting complicated, but windows is getting even worse.
i'd rather be worried about what's gonna happen with panther, then worry about if i will be able to play my mp3's on the next ms os.

I won't use it. I don't even want to look at it.

i think i'll just stick with XP. but we'll have to wait and hear more about it when it comes out.
There is no way I will upgrade to any DRM infected OS. I don't care if I stick with Windows 2000 for the rest of my life. I would rather have an oudated OS than a OS where I can't do what I want.

Longhorn will probably not have too much DRM, atleast nothing mandatory. But as people get used the idea, old Gatesy will continue to take away our rights. From what I hear, Longhorn sounds like it will be very nice, but let's just say, I'm not gonna throw away my XP CD any time soon. Besides, I don't think it's worth anything unless the hardware on your computer is set to Palladium mode too. Which, personally, I don't think Intel or AMD will go for. Maybe Intel....since they're such good buds with Gates.
AMD would make a good name for itself if it let Intel screw itself over even more by going in on this "take people's right away" kick. Meanwhile, we are all running Linux with AMD. Muahaha.

and if you keep using intel parts, you will see palladium. that means an outdated computer if you want to keep the evil palladium away...
i dunno.
ibm will have an 8ghz ppc990 (2 steps up from apples next cpu, the 970) in 2006. might as well just move to apple now.

the reason i dont use linux is because its to damn complicated to learn, but i know some distros try to make it easy to learn, i like the idea of knoppix being able to run from the cd instead of formatting and possibly loosing your data on your hd, if you know what your doing of course.
i have used mandrake linux 7.0 on this comp for awhile, but it couldn't support my modem (when i had 56k), or detect my soundcard. but since im on dsl it might recognize that with the software cd from my isp, and i could just dl the drivers for my sound card from my manufacturer for linux.
but still you have to recompile the source code, if you want to make modifications to certain programs like mozilla for instance, as to were if you wanted to change the splash screen in windows all youd have to do is create a file called mozilla.bmp and send it to your mozilla folder, and the spalsh screen would be changed, much much simpler.
id rather use mac os x.2 than any version of linux, because i found that to be a pretty kickin os, especially made by apple.

AMD sounds like it already has Palladium chips too. They seem more into it then Intel amazingly enough. I don't understand what the processor manufacturers care about DRM.Originally posted by isus

My view is that if they support DRM, microsoft will push a certain cpu, and in turn dell, and other manufactuers will follow suit. This is a way for AMD to try and get support from Microsuck, and in so doing get more support from major manufactures.
