    Can't connect to the net

    Hello,
I am posting a message on behalf of Serrebi101. He is having trouble with his computer. It's 2.0 GHZ, 60 gb hard drive XP home and on a router. He started having the problem today after he ran adaware. He tried running System Restore which didn't work. Every time he started his computer it said that System Restore failed to complete. So I was wondering if anyone knew what is wrong? Also maybe it's the IP address but Winipcfg doesn't work on his computer. so maybe you can tell me a program he can use for that.

I already know that. for one thing the ISP isn't down because I am on the internet at the same time. So it also can use WINIPCFG becaus mine does and I am using PRO.

Adaware6 removes "NewDotNet" spyware in an incorrect manner that will cause the same problem as yours. Reinstall the software which with it was bundled, and go to Add/Remove Programs and disinstall the "NewDot" program.
Another spyware that causes the same problem if incorrectly removed is "WebHancer", and the problem may be corrected with the same procedure.
Reconfigure AdAware to ignore both NewDotNet and WebHancer and DO NOT DELETE their files. You must manually disintall them.

This problem can usually be fixed without reinstalling newnet/webhancer.

On XP, find your XP install disk, going to TCP/IP in control panel
networking, writing down the settings, removing TCP/ip, reinstalling
tcp/ip and putting the settings back will probably work.

Or you can try the fixes suggested in adawares support forum

I'm using XP Pro myself and I know for a fact that winipcfg DOES NOT WORK with XP. You need to use ipconfig.

So if you know for a fact that it doesn't work your computer must be messed up because it works on the two computers I own that has XP pro and it works on both of them.

yea, winipcfg doesnt work. anywhere, ever, at all, in winxp.

etabeta probably has it. i am assuming he can still reinstall it. new.net blows... sometimes, there is spyware, then there is crap like this.

No I won't drop it because I know I am right. the program is in Program Files and Resource Kit, it works on XP on two of my computers trust me. I just tried it as I am typing this. "WNTIPCFG.EXE" that is the exact spelling and that looks lie the executable file on my computer. If you think I am lying that's your problem, because I know I am right so you just think what you want but I am telling you that it works on XP Pro, it doesn't work on Home because I just tried that today to. So maybe you have XP Home. Or maybe you have an illegal copy of XP that could also be why.

Well what is the point of asking if you are just going to ignore people's replies and format anyway? Come on!

Oh, and the Resource Kit isn't installed with Windows XP. It's for machines on a network, kind-of. Here's the documentation: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p...esourcekit.asp
