Question Any Updating Utilities out there?

I'm sure many of you had tried the Catchup utitlity that use to be at catchup.cnet.com . Well, I loved that utility. Since the good old days when updating software was easy, I have since upgraded to Win XP Pro (GREAT VERSION!!). I have been searching and searching for a program or website similar to C-Net's Catchup Services. I know about McAfee's Oil Change, and they do not support XP(or NT). I know about BigFix...and that program sucks. Is there anything else out there?

    Thanx :mellow

You know that "Catchup crap, uses adware/spyware, right!?

What are you trying to get updated?

I wasn't aware of that but not that concerned either. I have adaware 6. If it were to leave anything on my computer, I would have scanned for it and removed it anyway. Besides, I would imagine that in order for a site, such as Catchup, were to work properly, it would have to gather information and send it to their site. Otherwise, how else would it know what you had on your computer to update it. I guess what I am saying is that, that particular type of spyware, I could live with.:mellow

oh...forgot to answer your question. What am I trying to update? Pretty much whatever I have on my computer. I have at the latest count 113 different programs and it is a bitch making sure that all of it is up to date. I don't like to use auto-updating features. I have a 56k and I only like background services running when I choose to let them run.:mellow

If you remove the adware/spyware from Cnet, the program will not work.

If you look in the "Help" or "About" tabs, of the programs that you use, most of then has there on buillt in "updater", so check it out, and see what you find, this might help a little 'till you find what you are looking for.

    LOL
