Taken from the TRACKS, a newsletter from Road Runner High Speed Online Spring 2003:
Sharing may not always be a good thing...
A few notes regarding sharing, or file-swapping, software that enables you to download files from other computers:
1. Downloading music, video or other files from someone else's computer can also download Trojan horses and viruses which will then infect your computer.
2. When people access your computer for files, your computer is essentially acting as a server and the abundance of files downloaded from it negatively impacts the online experience for many.
3. In the "just the facts" category: Sharing copyrighted files is illegal.
For enhanced computer safety, and in observance of copyright laws, Road Runner recommends that you avoid accessing or providing copyrighted music, video, or other files through sharing or file-swapping programs.
