Windows XP automatic updates -

I have Windows XP and a dial up connection and have found that almost everytime I've connected to the internet recently Windows commences a new automatic download. Have other Windows XP users noticed this or is it just me? Is it normal to be getting so many automatic updates? Its annoying when I'm using a filesharing program because it slows down my (already crap) internet connection, but I don't want to cancel it incase they're important updates.

Click on Contol Panel/System/Automatic Updates.........
Either disable it or put it on Notify......... I have had XP for about a week now and haven't even gotten 1 notification yet. I had to go to the site and download 15 updates myself. Do not download the WMP Security Update, it can disable some programs. |

Some of the updates help protect against security holes, hackers and such. So sometimes they can be helpful.

sometimes helpful/vital. but watch out for that media player update. DO NOT DOWNLOAD. alters EULA and allows m$ to download stuff to your comp that will not allow you to open copyrighted files and a whole bunch of other stuff

I was stupid enough to install the WMP update, i run XP. I cannot find a way to uninstall this. It is not shown on Add/Remove progs and i cant find a way of uninstalling the media player itself.
Will uninstalling WMP solve my problem? I have to disable this update. Someone please help before I go on a vigilante mission and shove Bill Gates head up his arse NuTtY |
