SARS (Sever Acute Respiratory Syndrome) -
April 1st, 2003, 01:04 PM
All this talk about SARS has me wondering, are you guys afraid? I myself could care les, if I caught SARS tonight and was dead my tomorrow morning it would be just fine with me.
But before we continue I'll just inform you guys a little bit about SARS: When was SARS first found? On march 12, 2003, The World Health Organization (WHO) issued a global alert concerning cases of a typical pneumonia in Southeast Asia What parts of Asia has it been found in? In the city of Hanoi, Vietnam, the Peoples Republic of China including thr Hong Kong Special Administrasuve Region; and Singapore What causes SARS? It is not quite known what causes it, however national and international laboratory testinhg and collaboration is going on. Who is at risk? A person who has returned, in the past 10 days, from travel to areas in Asia where SARS cases have been reported OR a person who has visted Scarborough Grace Hospital in Toronto (Canada) in the past 10 days, OR a person who has had close contact (withen 1 meter) with a person who has a probable case of SARS What are the symptoms of SARS? -A "suspect" case of SARS is a person who is at risk as noted above, and as developed fever of 38 degress (celesius) or higher, and one or more respiratory systems, inculding: cough, shortness of breath, ot difficulty breathing, or has come in close contact of a "probable" case. -"Probable" cases of SARS are similar to suspect cases, but often they have a more severe illness, with a progressive shortness of breath and difficulty breathing, and in some cases chest X-Rays show signs of a typical pnemonia. -Because the disease is so new, a definitive disgnosyic test has not been made. What do I do if I think I am at risk, or have the symptoms? -People who are at risk of SARS and who have experienced symptoms of the illness are advised to CALL AHEAD before seeking medical advice from a doctor's office, clinic, or emergency room. Now that you know all about it, it's time for you to VOTE!!! |

Mysterious Disease Spreads to Regions Around the Globe -
April 1st, 2003, 03:32 PM
Of course it's an April Fool's joke...
*smacks Aaron73153* Now go read... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...-2003Apr1.html By Rob Stein Washington Post Staff Writer Tuesday, April 1, 2003; 5:22 PM An alarming new lung infection continued to spread in many parts of the world today as public health authorities around the globe struggled to stifle the dangerous disease, scientists raced to pinpoint the cause and doctors worked to save victims. The epidemic seemed to have subsided in Hanoi, where no new cases had been reported in eight days, and officials clamped tough quarantines on schools, hospitals and other institutions in Singapore and Toronto, raising hope that outbreaks would soon subside in those hot spots as well. "The good news is that Vietnam has contained the outbreak, Singapore is rapidly containing the outbreak, Toronto is rapidly containing the outbreak," said David Heymann of the World Health Organization in Geneva. "So we don't anticipate there will be spread from these places." But elsewhere the picture remained far less reassuring, with the pace of the epidemic and pattern of spread baffling researchers, and new suspected cases rising steadily. The worldwide tally from severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, jumped another 182 cases and four deaths, pushing the toll to at least 1,804 cases in 15 countries and at least 62 deaths. Indonesia, the world's fourth most populous country, and Australia reported their first cases. "It's continuing to unfold in a fairly dramatic fashion in terms of how it's spreading around the globe," said Margaret Hamburg, an infectious disease expert. "The public and governmental response has certainly ratcheted up, with people staying home from work, people canceling travel plans. Some places are putting in place pretty significant public health measures such as quarantine." In California, health officials intercepted an American Airlines flight from Tokyo with 125 passengers and 14 crewmembers aboard on the tarmac at San Jose's airport after five passengers reported symptoms similar to SARS. Health officials have been meeting every plane, boat and cargo ship arriving from Asia to remove any sick passengers and warn fellow travelers to be on the look-out for symptoms. Three of the passengers were being kept in the hospital. At least 72 suspected U.S. cases have been reported, including at least three in Virginia. There's more but if you want to read it, click the link. yay for Google news! |

SARS is a particularly deadly strain of the cold-virus, they can't diagnose it properly because they haven't figured out the difference between it and the ordinary cold-virus that is present to some extent in every living thing. Once they have a genetic marker or something to ID it with they will be able to tell you that's what you have or not, but not necessarily cure it anymore than they can cure the common cold or influenza. Antibiotics do help as they will combat the secondary infections such as pneumonitis that actually kill the people. Studies in current victims show that those who recover have some degree of immunity, this may lead to a vaccine to prevent it. If you don't get colds than you won't get this either.

Damn it, if your going to post something like that on April Fool's day post a fucking link for it so it can be verified. I haven't watched the news lately because its been all war coverage.
An unknown disease has become one of the greatest natural disasters facing the world becuase of how frequent international travel is. I just hope things never get to the point where all international travelors are forced to wear bio suits while in another country. We need to settle our differnces, stop fighting and untie to compat disease, famine and other things that are major dangers to the entire human race. <---- Serious thoughts, not just trying to save face! P.S. to all the ladies out there I am really not a moron! damn i feel like an :ass -Rush "Spirit of Radio" My profile in Cnet's "Three I can't live without" |

That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, An aeroplane - lenny bruce is not afraid. Eye of a hurricane, Listen to yourself churn - world serves its own needs, Don't misserve your own needs. Feed it up a knock, speed, Grunt no, strength no. Ladder structure clatter with fear of height, Down height. Wire in a fire, represent the seven games in a Government for hire and a combat site. Left her, wasn't coming in A hurry with the furies breathing down your neck. Team by team reporters baffled, trump, tethered crop. Look at that low plane! Fine then. Uh oh, overflow, population, Common group, but it'll do. Save yourself, serve yourself. World serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed. Tell me with the rapture and the reverent in the right - right. You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright light, Feeling pretty psyched. It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it and i feel fine. Six o'clock - tv hour. Don't get caught in foreign tower. Slash and burn, return, listen to yourself churn. Lock him in uniform and book burning, blood letting. Every motive escalate. Automotive incinerate. Light a candle, Light a motive. Step down, step down. Watch a heel crush, crush. Uh oh, this means no fear - cavalier. Renegade and steer clear! A tournament, a tournament, a tournament of lies. Offer me solutions, Offer me alternatives and i decline. It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it and i feel fine. The other night i tripped a nice continental drift divide. Mount st. Edelite. Leonard bernstein. Leonid breshnev, Lenny bruce and lester bangs. Birthday party, cheesecake, Jelly bean, boom! You symbiotic, patriotic, slam, but neck, right? Right. It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it and i feel fine...fine... (it's time i had some time alone) |
